New Outback

Yesterday I picked up my new 2017 Max S Outback. Very happy with the dealer and will probably put my T@G there on consignment. There a few things I need before the first outing, water hose, sewer hose, and probably and extension cord. I got a group 27 battery and have a Zamp 160 system. I also have the visor XL. I will reread the information for newbies. I have been lurking here for a few months.

My TV is the Nissan Frontier in the background of the first phone. Thanks everyone for all the good information.

Congrats! I love my Outback. What are you going to name yours? I think it's some sort of T@B rule that you gave to name them.Sheila and the Mullis Pups (Winston, Morgan, Leroy & Dakota)

Congrats! I'm looking at a Frontier on Monday to do a test drive. I owned a Nissan truck for 22 years (same truck). Then, swapped it for a Subaru Forester when I had a baby. Now, I want to get another truck. Has your Frontier been a good truck? Any warnings or precautions?JanetED said:Yesterday I picked up my new 2017 Max S Outback. My Nissan has been great. I only have 35000 miles on it but a friend of mine got hers at the same time and has over 150000 miles and no problems.LauraRey said:Now, I want to get another truck. Has your Frontier been a good truck? Any warnings or precautions?

I'm a died in wool Toyota fan and still have an older Tundra but recently bought a Nissan Frontier cause it was about 5k less than a comparable Tacoma. Seems like a good truck and have towed up to about 5000 lbs with it (6300 rated). My main complaint is a rough ride compared to the Toyotas I have owned. Get 19-20 mpg, maybe around 17 towing the tab but haven't done any long trips

Smart to get a group 27 battery. Wish I had known to demand one.

I have a Nisssan Xterra; built on the Frontier frame & love it; 160K miles & runs great! Fantastic TV as well.
-
I also tow with a V6 Frontier. Plenty of power and lots of room for your camping related toys!

Since you have a brand new Outback, maybe you can answer some obscure questions for me.
1) is there a receiver hitch on the back of the camper, similar to what they have on the back of a little guy?
2) If there isn't a receiver hitch back there, is there anywhere on the rear side of the frame where you could attach recovery equipment if you get stuck or need some sort of mechanical advantage for jockeying the camper?
3) What is the height of the tongue to keep it perfectly level while in tow?
If you are able to answer some or all of these, I would be very appreciative.
Thanks

No receiver hitch in back.
Rear frame member is way forward of the end of the trailer. Not feasible to put anything there.

Trailpixie - the Outback is a cosmetically altered Max-S. It is not designed for crossing the Rubicon or transversing the Seringeti. I hope you're not disappointed with your purchase. My Outback has done a yeoman's job of providing moderate off-road performance with superior cabin comfort.
