Can you take a T@b up to Dolly Sods in WV? Yes, but just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The road up to the top and to the campground is rough and your T@b gets a fair amount of jostling. I would recommend if you go, you have a 4WD drive vehicle. It might seem over the top, but it helped me ascending on the loose gravel to be in 4 High and descending to help with engine braking to be in 4 low. The grade all of the way down is very steep, steeper than anything I cam across this summer. I also recommend calling ahead to the Monongahela National Forest Potomac District station to check the road condition. This year I found the road to not be very rutted and washboarding was minimal. Bear in mind, it' a long way to go to find out the campground is full.
The campground itself is very small - only 12 sites, and 3 of those sites are walk-in for tents, only. I had site #4, which was really better suited for tents, but thanks to the T@b, I was able to fit. There are pit toilets in the campground and a hand pump for water. There is no dump station.
What I liked:
Very private sites
Easy access to Dolly Sods. The next closest campgrounds are either Seneca Shadows, Canaan Valley State Park, or Blackwater Falls State Park.
Dolly Sods is a wilderness area, so the campground has more of a wild feel to it.
It's cheap! $11
Quiet
What could have been better:
Given the remote location, I don't think they could do anything to improve the campground.
Details:
Price $11, no reservations, only 9 sites suitable for T@b, Pit toilet, hand pump for water, no dump station
