We just got our new Honda 2000 generator. Found this cable lock to help secure it. I prefer cable over chain because in my experience cable is harder to cut with bolt cutters or hack saws than chain. This cable lock also has an alarm feature.

There are just as thick cables with industrially crimped end loops on both ends. I can pull the loop through the other one end around something and then put a heavy duty lock through the other end. Seems to allow for further placement of the generator. I bought two and two locks and cables in case I needed more length to keep the exhaust away from intakes. I got them at HD.
BTW, 48' in a circle is only 2 feet free.

@ericnliz the cable is 6 ft long. It's more of a decapitation device than a feet tripper!
Oh @Dalehelman, there's a metal handle setup you can put on your Honda gen so people can't cut through the plastic handle.
