Twin Bed Set Up Idea

Hello Twinners,
I've read all of the posts about twin bed setups (I think), and I have an idea I'd like to ask those of you who have made the permanent switch to twins. We would definitely like to extend the width of the benches on each side. The current 20'" or so width doesn't support the width of our mattress pads or bedding. So, instead of building out the frames on each side bench to extend the widths of each "twin", has anyone tried replacing the bench covers with wider covers and allowing the overhang to be unsupported? The front of the benches would need to be trimmed at the top to allow the new covers to fit over the edge. Cut the new tops to fit our bedding, probably add a hinge to allow easier access to the side storage bench. Thoughts, anyone?
Thanks,
Debora

If you do that, you won’t be able to comfortably sit on the benches depending on how wide you make the bed. You will also reduce the space between the beds. Depending on how far the bench cover overhangs the gap, you may consider a drop down arm to support the bed.

@KeepingtheDreamAlive I took these pics at another Tab. They made these wood frames to go against the sides to extend the beds. The frames are made to nit blck the airflow vents at the floor. They also double as shoe storage. Good luck! It can be done!

I did @Photomom s PVC twin bed mod and it works great. I made mine about a foot wide. There are some other ideas in this thread:

Thanks everybody who commented on the twin bed set up. We tried sleeping with just the bench width as they are and it was too narrow. So we will be doing some kind of modification.
