First time out, having trouble with hot water at sink. I have searched a to , lots of good things. Just need clarification on adjusting the mixing valve. Instructions say to loosen the screw and move the knob out to the side, just not sure what that means? Can someone explain that better? Afraid the valve will come apart if I take the screw out?

Apparently, the mixing valve instructions were for a device mounted horizontally, while the TaB mount is vertical.  So, just loosen the screw and pull the knob up and turn it, then tighten the screw.  Don’t take the screw out!  You may want to make incremental adjustments because if you loosen the screw too much, the water pressure will overcome the screw and you will get a bath!  Ask me how I know😂

The orientation of the valve confused me, too, since mine sits facing up, not sideways.

And, as @Sh@Sharon_is_SAM says, you don't take the screw out.  Loosen the screw, and lift it a tiny bit.  The actual adjuster is below the plastic knob.

@miked, sorry, but I don’t know the length.  Just go slowly, set it and then check how warm it feels.

I just adjusted mine.  Unlike most mixing valves mine did not need the screw loosened to move the handle.  I kept loosening the screw until it fell out. The handle is hard to turn and in a awkward location just follow the arrow to turn to hotter.  Most mixing valves have a built in lock so that they cannot be adjusted without loosening the screw.
