Replacing propane line

Kates_MobyKates_Moby Member Posts: 38
I need to extend the lenth of the propane line.  I am adding a tongue box and need the line longer.  Any idea where to get that?  I was advised to replace not to add an extension.  I also need to find a stabilizer for a smaller propane tank.  10 lb.  any ideas?

Kates-Moby, You can find longer propane hoses at TRACTOR SUPPLY stores if you have one nearby. As for the propane tank, you could try a binder strap or fabricate a large enough clamp to fit over the tank.

You might want to check with a local propane dealer. I could be wrong, but isn't the piping under the T@B black pipe, until it gets close to where it branches off to your appliance(s)?

As far as a stabilizer for your tank, if you mean on your tongue, a welder could make a holder on the tongue for you. If you mean a stabilizer to keep it upright when using it or storing it, a milk crate will hold it upright. I couldn't find a "foot" stabilizer for my 10 lb tank, so I kept it in a milk crate for stability.

After doing a quick search for propane tank mounts, I found the standard 20 gal tank mounts, but only  found high dollar $100 +, 4x4 off road mounts for 10 gallon bottles.  There must be some others out there.

Rad, I couldn't find an affordable 10 lb mount. My local teardrop builder took an less than an hour to fabricate a mount on my tongue for the tank. Any welder should be able to fix one up easily.

Does anyone have a diagram or pictures of the propane distribution in a tab 320?  I have the Alde high altitude valve and would like to mount in the front tub where the propane tank is located so there is no chance of leaking inside the trailer.  It will be more convenient to change as well. This will require running the line that goes to the Alde back to the tub through the valve and a new line back to the Alde. Where is the distribution point past the regulator?  I just see one line running into the cover area under the trailer.

@stepheng, if you search for “Alde Freight Train” you’ll find discussions from a few owners who installed the high altitude kit. You might be able to find your answers in those posts.

@stepheng, there's a 320 plumbing schematic here, though I'm not sure if it will give you the info you are looking for. This was based on my 2015 T@B, which does not have the plastic underbelly sheet so everything is visible.

The flexible line from the regulator connects to a black iron pipe that runs along the long axis of the trailer and serves as a distribution manifold. Near the front of that pipe are two stubs that connect to flexible hoses that snake up through the cabinets to feed the stove and (if so equipped) 3-way fridge.

Near the back of the pipe is a third stub connecting to another flexible line that passes up through the floor and into the Alde.

(Newer models also have a regulated propane quick connect, but I'm not sure how or where that fits in.)

@Scott, thanks for the schematic.  Do you know if the propane connection from the black pipe to the Alde has 3/8" flare connections on each end?

@stepheng, sorry, I don't know what the specific couplings are. I had the hoses off the fridge and stove several years ago, but even then I didn't pay attention to those details. FWIW you can see them in this photo. I don't know if the Alde is connected the same way, but it wouldn't surprise me.

@stepheng, I just took a quick look and it appears the Alde is connected to the main gas line with the same flexible hoses as the stove and fridge lines I pictured above. The connectors also appear to be the same on both ends of the hoses.

@stepheng I relocated my propane regulator about a foot this spring.  Unless you have plenty of experience with propane fittings or a good place for advice, just find a local propane professional and they can probably get you the "right stuff" in seconds.  I ran into a solid brick wall trying to find out any info on fittings anywhere, except for the tank pigtail.
