    S,
I modified my design to use the existing hardware. I made a template from the original table with suttle adjustments.  I then made a master template for my router.

Pete, does the new top secret mod have anything to do with the table?

Thank you for sharing this mod! Your butcher block version is beautiful. Has anyone ever tried this using the existing table? I know there would be some work needed on the exposed edge...?

Actually, yes. You need to make up the difference of the saw kerf cut to make sure there is no mismatch between the two sections.

Ninabean your table looks beautiful!! I love the quote as well. Do you mind telling us how much it cost you to get someone else to modify this for you? Thanks for sharing your new table!

    Thank you @Runners

It cost me $650 😬 which may be a little pricey but considering he made the butcher block out of walnut and then transferred all the hardware plus did modifications because the table is only 7/8in thick now.  The quote was burned in with a laser.

@Ninabean I think it's worth it. You now you have a gorgeous one of a kind table that is better than the original. I love it!! :)

I was selling mine for $550, so 650 for that is about right.

@TaBle42 I think you did.  The wood drop leaf table adds an element of elegance to the already superb craftsmanship of the T@B400.  I actually want to spend more time inside of it.

Great looking tables. Another question please. My 400 table weighs about 25lb which I find a bit heavy to move around. What do these butcher block tables weigh ? Is it unreasonable to achieve a 10 - 15 lb solution using sandwich panel construction ?

Mine weighs 22 lbs. But, it is much easier to lift up and down as your reach is much more compact - you don’t need to stretch and hurt your back.

I believe I read that the original table weighs 28#s.  I do not know what my exact weight is but I think around 20#s.  It is only 7/8 inch thick now and the fold down leaf make it so much more manageable to handle.

I sure think you started something. I think its a great modification. My wife isn't convinced yet, but I will get her there! I do plan to build one at some point in the future.

Is the 7/8 inch thickness going to be sufficient to hold the weight of someone sleeping or sitting on it?

    Hello
well for our purposes it would only be a grandchild sleeping on it.  It is made of Walnut though which is a fairly hardwood and the woodworker explained how he glued the pieces to fit together using alternating grain so I n heat and cold they expand against each other creating more strength.

    Hello table enthusiasts!
(Photos removed due to excessive size.  Sharon - Moderator)

I also thought @TaBle42 's modification was a great idea. I decided to make mine with a removable end. The wood Butcher Block looks a lot warmer than the white laminate standard table.

That's cool! What did you use to make the end detachable ?

Sorry, one more thing. How far back from the wall edge did you cut off the front?

@SWickersham, I just used the cushion as a template.  I installed the table in the lower position and put the cushion in place.   I  actually allowed the cushion to overhang by maybe a half inch.

I'll post a picture of the underside of the table when I get a chance.

I reinforced mine with 2 full-wi steel angle iron inlays to keep the top flat as well as being able to support body weight-sitting and sleeping.
