wind power

Since usually peak sun does not coincide with peak wind, anyone try a combination of both to keep a Tab battery charged? A 400w wind powered generator is much cheaper than a 100Watt solar panel and controller.
Just don't know how high a pole you would need.
Wouldn't be popular in a busy campsite but maybe when boondocking.

This guy did it with an Aliner, so no reason to think it couldn’t be done with a Tab:

@VictoriaP if that video was slimpotato head it didnt work. by the time the wind turbine began producing any meaningful power the wind speed became an issue and there was significant vibration through out his trailer. He ended the experiment and removed it.

I've dealt with wind generators for years on my sailboats. Yes, irritating noise. Yes, generate decent power when wind is up. we used them to supplement our solar, not replace it. Different brands have different qualities. Some produce power at lower wind speeds but not much overall. Other produce a lot but need wind speed. There are manufacturers of quieter blades you can swap out on common models. Start your research , emarineinc.com.

Thanks all. I was more thinking as a supplement to solar. Also with how the tab frame is set up, I would have a seperate pole with storm guys. Certainly while I test it. I'll have to look at some height needs and actual usable output, but it was a thought.

One advantage of a system such as:

...is you'll no longer need stabilizers.

I have seen large versions of these. They used off peak power to spin up the intertia storage, then it runs as a generator to supply power during peak time.It was just storage so you would have to lug it around spinning to use it's storage.Fun idea tho :-)

Of course if you park near a river there is always hydro. Near the sea there's tidal.
