Victron did not power on

Installed battery monitor today.  When I connected the head unit, it did not turn on.  I did have a spark when connecting the negative lug.  All other electrical devices seem to work.

any ideas?

Does it matter which side of the shunt goes to battery and which side goes to block?  I may have that backwards too.

Don't know about your brand monitor.  However on the cheaper (price/quality/operation) China one I have it does matter . . . wiring backwards (on mine) just causes the Discharge / Charging data to be backwards, does not cause any failure issues.

@MuttonChops so was I.  Had the wires switched.  Must have been due to working in the heat 🙄🙄.
Seems to be working.  Have one odd reading I need to figure out.  Also need to figure out how to get the head unit out of set up mode

If you complete the set up 9m your smart phone, 5he head unit will eventually catch up. Assuming g you have a Bluetooth enabled device...

You guys are so reassuring... I wired mine the wrong way the first time too. Can't remember, but I think I did HOT to 'B' instead of to 'A'.
    The Victron did survive tho.
I could never have been an engineer. I never admitted it. B)

Head seems to have caught up.  Thank you for the help.  I am getting an alert about the midpoint voltage.  I will use the battery a bit before I worry about it.  May just be that the system is learning.
