Has anyone succeeded in putting the spare back in the original spot

Initially I moved my spare tire to the A Frame in the front of the trailer. But I am now using the A Frame area to hold a bike rack...Now I want to put the spare back under the rear. Try as I Might I could not lift the tire and also put on the lug nuts. Does anyone have a suggestion?

This just came up recently in another discussion. I don't think there was a good answer...2015 T@B Max S (320)

@BogieMeister - I wonder if you could add system that is on my 2021 320S? My spare is mounted under the A-frame. There is a small gear box and cable system that lifts and holds the spare to the bottom of the propane tub. You use a socket to turn a 13/16" hex head nut on the inside floor of the tub. This lowers and lifts the cable that is attached to a retainer on the hub of the spare. You still have to get down on the ground to thread the retainer through the hub...but you use the socket to easily lift it back into place.

Jack it up with a hydraulic jack? or put some jack stands underneath?

Here is a thread that shows a stabilizing technique on how to remove the tire. The reverse may work for the return.

I'm adding a jerry can mount to the tongue, so I had to move the spare tire off of its mount on the jack. I ordered one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JMHFK4S?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details and have mounted it in the original spare tire location. I'm not completely happy with it, since I need to space the tire down a bit to be able to access the crank. Maybe I should move it to the location under the propane tub?

How much ground clearance is there on the new spare mounting position. (under the tub) I don't imagine it would travel well down down a rutted dirt road.Gerri (Gary) Ewing

I use pieces of 1x4 or 2x4. Alternately add pieces on either side of the tire until I get it lifted into place. Not elegant but simple.2017 T@B Max-S, silver & silver, towed by a Titanium Silver 2018 Kia Sorento AWD V-6, Twin Cities MN

Kind of contortionist. I helped a friend reinstall theirs. I sat under trailer rear with legs outstretched. I placed the spare on my legs and lifted it with them while attaching securing hardware. Yuck. I thought getting my spare off my Yakima rack(Boondock) was rough.2022 TAB 400 Boondock, 2019 Toyota Tacoma Sport 4x4

I have succeeded. First I lowered the trailer tongue all the way down. The I placed a 1x4 board across a small floor jack. I balanced the tire atop it and rolled the whole contraption under the trailer. By slowly raising the jack I was able to align the holes. The 1x4 allowed enough clearance to get my hand in and start the nuts. Problem solved. Now I just have to deal with the low clearance issue.
Thanks for your suggestions.Gerri (Gary) Ewing

Or move it up onto the back. Not sure if/when nuCamp will come up with something like this that’s not the expensive Boondock Yakima rack. I’m sure they could do a better job than I did.

I really like what you have done with your relocation. It’s obvious that you put a lot of thought and effort into creating this. But I am concerned about the long term effect of the inertia of the tire constantly changing as you travel down bumpy roads. Please keep us posted as to your status. If it remains stable I will gladly follow your lead.ThanksGerri (Gary) Ewing

To add to your concern, I added racks to the sides. We completed the first half of a 600 mile trip this weekend (heading home on Wed). Everything traveled well with no visible signs of stress. Not afraid to admit my mistakes. I’ll report back with any news, good or bad.BogieMeister said:Please keep us posted as to your status.

I was able to get the tire remounted in the original spot by lowering the T@B front to it's lowest and using a hydraulic jack to raise the tire into position. Was able to do it in my carport, don't think that would work on the road.
