Broken grey clip for window shades
jtalarek
Member Posts: 19
Recently the grey clip that holds the window screen and privacy shade together broke off. I did call the dealer to order a new one but have not yet heard back. It is not clear to me how the clip is installed or how to replace it. has anyone else run into this
situation?
situation?

@jtalarek, the clip is a Horrex Duo Plisse Excellent Window Blind and Fly Screen Catch/Clip (also referred to as a retaining clip.) I have never had to replace one, but if your dealer or nüCamp cannot help you out, you can search for it on Google and may be able to find one on eBay, or another distributor (probably in Europe.)
I did a quick search and found this site, which has a photo of it. Initially, I thought it consists of two pieces, but I soon realized that the photo probably just shows a front and back view. Thus, it appears that the clip may slip over the metal frame it is attached to and snaps in place.

This amazon.co.uk link shows better photos of all angles of the clip:

You might contact warranty@nucamp.com. They may just send you some. At the uCamp rally, Elsie was just handing them out. I grabbed a few and keep them in the camper.Carol

Hi All-I'm now a member of the Broken Clip Club.
It seems that the original clip installation glues it to the top bar of the bottom/shade.
Any tips on "ungluing" or prying the glued broken piece off without damaging anything?
Thanks!NH - 2018 T@B 320S-Silver/Black Trim - TV 2014 Toyota Highlander-Blue/Gray -
I had a clip break, and couldn't get it off. I just put a second clip on near the first, and left the broken piece on the shade.Carol

@Mouseketab - that's what I was afraid of. I'm guessing when so many folks were saying the clips were falling off in the earlier models, the nucamp installers decided to glue them. I appreciate knowing I'm not alone at least.
@Sharon_is_SAM - Thanks! Just wish the original wasn't glued so well.

In a pinch, a binder clip works to hold the screen to the shade. I always keep a few of those in my 400 for bags of chips, etc.

Thats really cool, thank so much for sharing this. These look like a great option to replace the clips when they break.AVIA_OWNER said:Hi I created a spring loaded latch for my shade with a 3D printer

And in a real pinch (no pun intended), opposable thumbs also work well. ;-)
Seriously, I've never quite figured out the reasoning for those clips. My 2015 doesn't have them and I've never felt they were needed. Do the shades have a tendency to drop without them? It seems they started installing those right around the time they flipped the orientation of the shades and screens. (My shades pull down and my screens pull up.)2015 T@B Max S (320)

@ScottG my guess would be that if you have your windows open and you're half shading and half screening for privacy (my shades pull up) any little gap between the screen and shade will allow bugs in.
-
@Deb55, in theory I would have the same issue with a potential for gaposis between the shade and the screen, but I don't so long as I am careful to use those thumbs properly. That's why I wondered if the need for the clips was somehow related to the shade and screen tending to separate on their own when their orientation is reversed.Deb55 said:@ScottG my guess would be that if you have your windows open and you're half shading and half screening for privacy (my shades pull up) any little gap between the screen and shade will allow bugs in.
Hmmm. At least I don't think I have a gap there... but now you have given me something to check more closely. :-)2015 T@B Max S (320)

Has anyone found these clips (Horrex Duo Plisse Excellent Window Blind and Fly Screen Catch/Clip) in the USA? My son borrowed my trailer and broke one. I want him to replace it. I googled, but all of the links seem to be in the UK or Australia.

Favoriting this topic for the day one of our clips breaks...
And wondering if it'd be possibly to put strip magnets on the screen and shade channels to hold them together instead of a clip (I know the channels are aluminum and non-magnetic, but using some sort of double-stick tape to hold the strip to the channel should work)----------------------------------------------------------

I figure you're thinking of mounting the magnets on the inside of the channels and not between them. I guess that would work. We broke one of ours last year, but haven't fixed it yet. The screen and shade can be placed close enough without a clip. Still a clip or your magnets will work better.2019 Tab 320 CSS, 2019 Ranger TV, OH

FYI, I emailed NuCamp as suggested above and received this reply:
"Unfortunately we do not sell direct so this would have to be ordered through one of our dealers. A lot of our dealers will drop ship the part directly to you."
Wish me luck with the dealer, otherwise I may have to make a trip to the UK, where they seem to be available.

@PNWtabber - they are available on EBay. If you use a dealer, I suggest Missouri Teardrop Trailers. Get several, just in case.Sharon / 2017 T@B CSS / 2015 Toyota Sienna Minivan / Westlake, Ohio

I saw the eBay ad, but it is in UK, so shipping might be a factor. I already reached out to my local dealer, we'll see what they say. My son has to pay for it since he broke it -- maybe I should make it as painful as possible?Sharon_is_SAM said:@PNWtabber - they are available on EBay. @PNWtabber, see this discussion for a possible better source for the clip:

How does one remove the remnants of a broken clip? The large remaining portion of the clip is firmly fixed to the metal portion of the shade.2019 Tab 320 CSS, 2019 Ranger TV, OH

Still photos have to suffice. Simply take a flat blade screwdriver and place between the plastic clip and the aluminum shade. Gently twist the screwdriver from the bottom towards you. This should pop out the bottom of that side of the clip. Repeat on other side.
