A Little Low On Glycol…Buy 5 Gallon Bucket?

So when I picked up our trailer I noticed they had filled the glycol to just the minimum level. This weekend I noticed it was slightly below the minimum line.
It appears you can only buy Rhogard in 5 gallon quantities. Could I do this, top off the glycol and still use the rest in a couple of years when I need to do a system flush or does this stuff “expire”?

You should be able to buy a 1-gallon mix bottle from nüCamp via your local dealer.
cheers

I’ll check with them. I called some local rhogard dealers and they said there’s a glycol shortage and prices have doubled.2021 400 BD

Quick update. Local dealer is charging $36/gallon with a whopping $25 shipping charge (partially refundable depending on the cost...we'll see about that). 5-gallon bucket is $150ish before shipping but I didn't want this sitting around for the next 2 years before I use the rest of it. Got the gallon size.2021 400 BD

@manyman297, don't feel too badly about that price. The 5 gallon bucket I got from Alde/Truma about 3 months ago was $188 before shipping. My fill up took almost exactly half so I put the rest of mine in new gallon bottles for reuse the next time I flush & fill.DaveR middleTN - 2015 320S / TV 2003 Tundra 4x4

@fstop32 I was fine with the $36 price…just didn’t expect shipping to be that much.Is there a shelf life on this stuff? I was hesitant to get the 5-gallon bucket since it would be sitting around for a couple of years before I have to do a flush/fill.2021 400 BD

@manyman297 I too was expecting and ok with the cost of the product, but I agree with you on the shipping. I looked at my 5 gallon bucket and I didn't see any info on proper storage of an opened container. I've emailed Chantal at Truma/Alde for any info she might have and I'll post it when I hear back.

Here is Chantal's reply to my question...
"The glycol has a 2 year life expectancy when it is being used in the boiler but if it is in the container it is not going to “expire” you would want to keep it in a cool dry place and it should be just fine for a very long time."

I found that mine was a bit low while on a 6 week trip. No way to find any within reason. I added about 12 ounces of distilled water and called it a day.
