The simplest version is just one that goes between your power cord and power connection at the pedestal in the campground. That is what I use. Search camping world or Amazon and you will find one for a 30amp service.Stacie said:i am a little confused about the need for a surge protector. You can also install a permanent one, hard wired in, inside your rig in the area under the drivers side seat. -
Thanks Rad...wouldn't someone steal the unit if it's outside? Who would hardwire the protector?

A basic surge protector will protect your unit from a power surge. More advanced units will also protect against reverse polarity, low and high voltage, as well as surges, all of which can damage the T@B.
You should be able to get them at any RV supply, and they come as units that plug in externally between your trailer and the power pole, or as internal units installed within the T@B.

I use the type that plugs into the outlet at the pedestal. All the pedestals that I have seen have a metal tab sticking out at the bottom right corner, I put a padlock there so no one but me can open the cover and remove the surge protector. The HobbiT@B, 2015-L, towed by a2014 RAM C/V

Where is the surge protector located in the trailer? Who do I contact if we want a hard wired one?

Thank you for all the advice!

We have used a surge protector which plugged in at the electrical pedestal since 2009 for our travel trailer and have never locked it and it has never been stolen. Actually never thought that anyone would steal it. Guess we are naive. May consider locking it, but may not install inside since we already have the outside model.

My feeling, only a feeling, I leave lots of stuff out I value, chairs, BBQ's, fold up tables, etc. Most people do when in a typical campground. I think you are not naive, just practical like most of us.R&DAndrews said:We have used a surge protector which plugged in at the electrical pedestal since 2009 for our travel trailer and have never locked it and it has never been stolen. Now in remote areas or clearly sketchy campgrounds it all gets put away....Execpt the stuff used for hook ups; waste hoses, pressure regulators, water hoses, 30 amp cord and yes, the surge protector. -
I want with it inside so that it would be one less thing to deal with during set up. I am glad I did.
