What kind of fastener is on the propane cover?

And how do you remove it?

    No problem drilling it out. After the PVC pipe is removed you can put in another rivet.

    Drill it out with a 3/16" drill bit. Remove the PVC pipe and then you replace the rivet with a new  3/16 rivet.

    It's a "pop rivet". 

    They sometimes spin when you drill them, so if you can, grab the other end with some vice-grips while you drill.

    Try to size your drill bit so it's just a tad larger than the shaft of the rivet. Then you can simply drill til the top of the rivet comes off, then push the rest of the rivet out of the hole. You shouldn't have to drill deeply at all.

     It's aluminum, so drill gently.

    I drilled mine out, removed the rivets and then in a fit of OCDness I found the perfect size rubber grommet/plug in my parts bin.   I be silly sometimes =)

    Hi Jenn:  I removed the PVC tube by drilling out the rivets.  Be careful when drilling as the heat can (and did in my case) melt the plastic. It's not too noticeable but it did make the hole larger. Dave

    Really? Are your drill bits sharp?  With a good bit mine took a few seconds to remove.  I'm sure you know this, others may not, you only drill out the very small center portion.

    Yes, sharp bits.  User error on my part.  I used too large of bit and the rivet started spinning.  I should of stopped, but... . Anyway, I learned my lesson and the second one came out much better.
