Cargo box question

I'm not sure this is right part of the T@B forum for this question, but if it's not, I'm sure one of the excellent moderators will move it as appropriate.
Can someone tell me if the vertical bar in the rear of the cargo box (see photo below) serves a useful purpose? I assumed that it is there to help stiffen the box, but the box is already well-supported by the platform and the bar does not seem to really do much. While it's welded to the floor at several points, it's not attached to the wall of the box, which seems odd if it's role is truly to stiffen things.
I'd like to cut a section of it out to gain some additional floor space but am reluctant to do that if it really does serve some purpose.

I think that might be there as a place to (sort of) contain a sewer hose.

I work in a metal fab shop and this is normally done to stiffen the large flat section. From what I can see in the picture, the box is bolted to the platform in at least 8-10 locations. If it was me I would have no issue with removing a section of it in the box on my T@B400. Just my thoughts and opinion.

When installing a battery rack lit it requires a small  section of that to be cut out.  It doesn’t cause any lack of structure problems.

As mentioned above it also creates a nice spot to store your sewer hose.  We keep two 10' sections of sewer hose there.
