Dog sets off CO2 detector

I have an Aussie who loves to lay against the CO2 detector (cause I have the a/c vent pointed downward). Unfortunately, he routinely sets off the CO2 detector. Not an issue if we’re awake but when it happens at 0100 it’s a real bummer. If I remember I set a pair of shoes on top of each other in front of the detector. Looking for something with a bit more class. My wife thought a small mesh basket like a strainer for noodles or something similar. Mesh allows free air flow but with a 1/2 to 1 inch stand off it would prevent the Aussie from laying against it. I would attach it with Velcro so it was easy to remove when I needed to replace the batteries, system checks, etc. I’m tempted to ask my son to design something in CAD and print it on his 3D but before that, thought I would hit the forums and see if anyone has experienced the same issue and had a solution.

There are lots of sizes and shapes of RV furnace vent screens. Maybe something like these could work...

Actually it's a carbon monoxide (CO) and propane detector and it also reacts to methane gas, a.k.a dog farts. No kidding, google it.

@Grumpy_G you stole my thunder!!
But you are correct on both counts, what that detector does and the exhaust gases from a dog. DaveR middleTN - 2015 320S / TV 2003 Tundra 4x4 -
Our black lab was doing the same thing - laying against the detector and setting it off. It makes quite a racket!
I solved that by mounting a short piece of baltic birch plywood just below the detector with 2 screws from inside the bench storage area. I didn't know if this was going to be enough to prevent the detector from going off but it has been working good for a year now with no accidental discharges (except from the dog's rear end of course). Inobtrusive and I can easily get to the detector if need be. The black tape, complete with dog hair, is to cut down on the green light that is a bit too bright at night.
