Haven Carefree awning

We have the Carefree awning on our Haven and it has a motion sensor that is supposed to retract when it gets to windy, but it doesn’t seem to work. Any idea what the problem could be. You can change the sensitivity and I put it up to 7 and it does nothing but beep every 10 seconds.

    Now the awning won’t extend, it comes out about 6 inches and then stops moving but the motor is still running so if I pull on it and help it then it comes out and it will retract just fine but we just had this trailer at the service center yesterday for a new fridge and some other stuff and had them look at the awning because the wind sensor was not working.

    I think I bought a lemon, one problem after another and it’s only 6 weeks old.

    I have been able to make it work well most of the time. it seems that the awning will sometimes bind as you have noticed. I have found that running it in and out several times (assisting when necessary) usually clears that up. My trailer is at nucamp right now for several small things to get repaired under warranty; and to have the pitched axle installed. They promised to look at the awning, as it does not fully retract and seat on the right side.

    I went out this morning and now the awning extends all the way out so I lubed all the joints with some dry lube and ran it in and out a few times, hopefully that solves the problem. But I still can’t get the motion sensor to sync up with the controller, I changed the batteries and went through the process outlined in the manual to no avail.

    Look at one of my posts on the link above, I had the sync problem the first time I had to change the batteries. Had to completely power down the trailer and turn the battery disconnect switch off to reset the awning controller. Then it synced right up with the app.

    We had a Care-free (ironic name) on two different class-B vans (oem installs), and they were always finicky. Having the arms adjusted right was critical as they would bind up a lot, especially in the closed position.

    As a result - I am not a big fan.

    One barely related care-free anecdote, not relevant here I guess - but it was fun:

    During back in 2020, we went to a Revel van rally and there was dozens of vans all in a big lot at the Grand Targhee in Idaho. We were up on a hill above the lot just looking around, and a gust of wind blew through the lot and simultaneously like 30 awnings retracted. :)
