BAL Leveler Parts - WARNING!

I needed a new screw drive and socket for my BAL leveler.  Called the factory.  The don't sell parts directly, but gave me the phone number of Colaw RV.  Lady at Colaw said both parts would total $15 but she couldn't estimate the shipping.  She would have to charge my credit card for the shipping once known.  Just looked at my credit card statement - Colaw RV charged me $58 just for the shipping!!!  The order was placed 14 days ago, and I still don't have the parts (i.e. no expedited service obviously).  What a huge rip-off considering a new leveler is $80 with free shipping on Amazon.  So I just paid $73 for two parts when I could have bought a new unit for $80 and received it over a week ago.  BAL and Colaw RV should be ashamed of themselves.

I'd cancel the order and ask my credit card company to reverse the charge. You did not authorize them to charge $58 for shipping.

I do agree, Frank. Those parts do not weigh that much to warrant those shopping charges.

I third that one, no reason it should cost that much to ship.  Reach back to Norco (BAL), I have read numerous accounts where they have directly replaced the parts.

Just FYI, the BAL leveler is on sale at Camping World right now:  $67.77 for club members until May 29.

I think I would go back to using 2 x6's before paying $73.00 for parts.

Wow, usually when we order something to be sent directly to our local RV place they don't charge us for shipping.

We love the Bal,   the included wrench not so much.   It had too much slippage.   I use my own.   Besides,  then I could go the store and shop for a new one.

One side has the slip action, flip it over change ratchet direction, no slip? Hope this helps.

@OutbackAZ, what was the resolution of this? Were you able to get your money back?

Yes, they refunded the entire amount. I need to call the factory and try again.

Thanks, but I've used ratchets all my life, and the cheaper ones have a tendency to slip out of gear or not engage from one turn to the next.  At work we called this a buffalo tool.  I like consistency.  Also don't want to get hurt.  Some of my earlier craftsman socket wrenches did this too.  Of course maybe my included wrench might just be faulty.  No matter, tool man here has a lot of extra stuff...

I've used my included ratchet on mine for 7 years plus and never an issue. (Of course, now that I've said that, it will start messing up.)

Yup, all it takes is one time leaning into the cranking and have it slip...
Mine could be defective too.. Just saying....

I just bought a BAL Leveler and found the wrench to be a pos.  It slips constantly.  It is the next thing on my to be replaced list.

The BAL Leveler uses  the same size socket as the stabilizers on my DM T@B so I use the power drill set-up or crank that I carry for them.
