A/C Rooftop Vent Cap

Just back from our first of the season camping (a most excellent trip), and noticed the black tank vent cap was missing.  It just snaps on, and I've knocked it off more than once with the cover...must've caught a branch or something.  Has anyone had to replace it...and if so, where to get?  Is it standard enough that our local RV dealer might have one (we don't have a T@B dealer any more)?  Thanks!

Thanks...I'll ladder up and check the base (mine didn't have a spring clip), and maybe call LG on Monday.

If yours is the same as our 2015 Sofitel the roof vent cover you lost is not the vent for the black water tank. It is the intake for the AC cooling fan. The black water vent is on the side just below Tv antenna input terminal. At least I believe I am correct.

That is what I thought, too.

Actually, I think this looks more like it, except it's white:

    (link to it on Amazon)

On ours anyway. And there ought to be a screw in that hole on top that holds it on.

Mine is black also. Any water that gets i to the pipe will go directly into your A/C unit.

I wish I'd taken the pic from a different angle to see the vent...but it was one of those perfect getaways...nice temps, clear skies (super stars), almost empty campground...slept like a rock!

Well well...owned for 2 years now and never knew...sure enough we don't have a black tank vent, but we do have a hot-air-from-the-air-conditioner vent.  I don't think there's a fan in there; I know we don't have a switch for a fan.  Right on top of the A/C (which we rarely use), so unlike a sewer vent really needs to be covered.  Thanks all for the comments; I'm not sure I would've gotten up there to look  straight down!  Looks like a spot for a screw (which was never there) to hold the cap.

J.D., you should be able to get a replacement through Elsie at the factory.

Almost any RV supply store will have one. It will probably come as a complete unit including both pieces. If it's white you could just paint it.

That's kind of a weird thing to go missing off the top of the t@b.  Any ideas other than the maybe missing screw?

Operator error ;-( We store our T@B off to the side of our drive, always with the cover; I take the cover off and put it on with every trip, and half the time knocking that cap off. I don't know why I thought it was a black tank vent (maybe cuz it was black?), since it's right over the A/C and couldn't run down to the tank.  We didn't have the best dealer turnover (and now the dealer's gone...), and I'm sure this is something that never gets explained. I don't know if the T@B gets shipped with the cap screwed on...but ours wasn't.  I'm glad I caught it...had we gotten caught in the rain, it'd be a mess to clean up inside the A/C enclosure.

Note that the factory forgot to include a screen on ours. Great spot for the lady bugs and other pests to sneak in.

You might want to screen it before you put the cover back on.

I thought about this week - adding screens to all of the vent openings.

Since these caps are meant for sewer/black tank venting, I suspect they don't come with screens (who cares if a little rain gets down into your black tank?).  I don't think the replacement I ordered from Amazon includes a screen.  This (once again) shows the wonderful collaboration of this forum!

Got the replacement cap/vent from Amazon (thanks Jenn!).  I got some fiberglass screen, thinking I'd silicone caulk it over the whole, but surprisgly it wouldn't stick (I thought EVERYTHING sticks to silicone...), so I left it out.  We don't have that many bugs out here anyway; if it becomes an issue I may find another way to screen that 2" hole.  I also added a rubber stopper; any rain/moisture is just going to sit on top of that (stainless) screw now.  Thanks to all for the help and suggestions...

Moderators- for the sake of the limited search engine, should this thread be relabeled "AC Vent Cap"?

Mine is starting to come off. I have to figure out a way to reach it to fix it without a ladder.

Checked mine a few days ago and all was fine - being on the short side it took a high ladder.
