Dual-purpose bed slats

Have to admit I had a beer on the slats before I used them as a bed. 

Seems brilliant to me. Love the idea!

I went a slightly different route.  Have two pieces - main table and small table.  (21 X 29.5 and about 10.5 X 29.5 as I recall).  The 21 X 29.5 is my laguna table, while the second smaller table functions as a small table (same as your's) or I use it for additional privacy if I want some additional baffling between the door and the seating area.  If I don't want to use it at all, I put it under the bench where the table is centered (the driver side on my setup).  
I generally put the smaller table setup by the rear cushions so i can move around without having to go over the table.  I can lounge on the passenger side and have the side table available or move out the main table and have more substantial table.  Alternately it gives me some privacy..

After much design it's complete note table can rotate towards back with seat up. Note there is two hinge pieces that store under table surface. At night we remove table rotate it lift out 2 hinged sides to make as filler for bed slat.
Note it clears the table base.
Rotates towards back and with seat all the way up just touches edge of table.
Bottom pieces do not interfere with anything in stored position.
Table in open postion  for bed support.
Brass hinges that are routed so it folds up tight.

29x18 closed when used as bed slat it's 29x28.

Careful on 29" measurement that's size needed on my unit to go between benches may be different on yours. I also have a piece of wood spacing my Lagun mount a little to clear cushion. So 18" width may be little different but that was I needed to make it work perfectly.
