Search Engine

Is it just me?  Every time I enter any kind of topic in the "search" line I get something like "no matches found" no matter how short or long the topic. Has this search ever worked for anybody?

I just searched for "no matches found" (without the quotes) and this topic came up....and it's the only one with this combination of words.

I've found a much less frustrating way to search is to use Google with the qualifier "site:https://tab-rv.vanillacommunity.com" added to the search string.

Ditto! Works for any forum that has a funky search engine.

I should have thought of that.  Great idea, thanks...

The search issue has been discussed on other threads such as: http://tabforum.wpengine.com/#/discussion/comment/64385

I came up with another search fix option --
Disable the forum search box and insert a website search box at http://tabforum.wpengine.com above the forum. The new search box would redirect a search phrase to "site:http://tabforum.wpengine.com" through the viewer's browser.
If that's undesirable (it will leave the website to display search results in a browser) the alternative is Bing Cognitive Services API ($3/mo for 1000 calls). This does it all (natural language support, AND/OR logic, relevancy ranking, etc.) plus the search results would be imbedded into the website through the API call.
Don't bother with Google custom site search. That service is being discontinued and carries the usual Google monetizing baggage (IP tracking and ad-sense).

BTW: The difference between tab-rv.vanillaforums.com and tabforum.wpengine.com is the latter is nüCamp's website where forum content is displayed within. This URL ensures visitors are kept in the loop on any website changes or new information. If you only visit vanillaforums you won't know if nüCamp updates their site unless it's mentioned on the forum.

This hint for how to make Google search the forums intelligently should be prominently posted.  I know Google can do it, but I always forget the syntax, and I wind up searching the forums for the info!

    search function site:http://tab-rv.vanillaforums.com/

PS:  I bookmarked the thread so I can find it....

Or search the forum for "Google" (without the quotes) and this topic does come up.
