My latest mod

I have been a Camp Host at a State Forest Primitive Campground every other month this summer. Because it is in the boonies, and because of road construction, I have been having to take either one of two gravel roads. Each of them have "dry washes" that are streams that cross the road and the water may be mud or it may have a bit of a current to it. One of the Dry washes on each road causes me to scrape my spare tire that has been under the rear of the T@B.

I hate scraping the spare because I may need it one of these days and I don't want it scraped to pieces. So, while at üCamp17, I made arrangements with Austin to install one of the Outback racks on the rear of my T@B.  And, he even was so kind as to place the spare tire in place.  I finally received my tire cover today, so I'm prepared for the road!  (Yes, it did cover up my Indiana Hoosiers decal and I couldn't get it off before üCamp17, so it will stay in place under the tire!)

GO IU!

Verna, we have this as well on our S model T@B and are very happy with it.   My only difference is that as your neighbor to the north, if I had a tire cover, it would have a big M on it - Go Blue!

Verna...did you consider putting the spare on the tongue?  I'm guessing you have stuff in the way.  I like the idea of having the spare in back...our tongue weight is a little over 200# with the spare up front.

@DurangoTaB, I have surge brakes and with the diamond plate tub, there's no room on the tongue. Plus I have the dual 6V Golf cart batteries in the tub that added at least 68 more lbs of tongue weight. This evens out the tongue weight. I don't mind the look of the rack and tire, so it's fine with me. If the truth be known, the only other T@B 320 I'd ever upgrade to would be an Outback since I spend so much time in AZ and the Southwest.

V, it looks fabbo! I did the same mod and never regretted it. The tire mount has a place you can padlock it as well. Given what people steal around the U.S. it was a nice feature. Around here, people don't mess with tires that have covers. Not sure why. Probably because people who show off their spares are also showing off expensive rims.

As a small derail, I can't believe someone had the gall to steal a battery out of a T@B sitting in a driveway. Other people have had batteries and propane tanks stolen on my other forum for Retro trailers (maker of my toy hauler)!

Your mod is GREAT. I didn't even think of your batteries in the front you modded, but they really don't matter. The tire was already below the area where it now sits above the trailer. There isn't any added weight, but a center of gravity change + more clearance going up gas station humps to stop scraping!! I left the posts for the spare underneath. If I recall, they were supported and placed within the rear end of the T@B.

@Ratkity, The support for the spare also can be removed. Two bolts & off it comes. I saved the support & just replaced the two bolts back in their respected place in the frame. Makes for a cleaner look underneath (like I'm gonna crawl back under there again! :o).

@Ratkity, I'll have to look for the padlock holes when I get home. I'm having a family get together Sunday at a Shelter House, so I had to pack more stuff than normal and didn't have time to find my padlocks.

@Verna - Sorry you lost visibility of your Hoosiers decal!  But wheel cover looks good!  We almost need to have a "Be true to your school" thread.  @Newbomb_Turk has a TCU cover and we rock WSU decals
