Television not powering on

I have a 2021 400. We haven’t been able to get out too much. I used the tv once in my driveway and it worked, but I remember having a difficult time getting it to work. We’re on a trip out west now, and I can’t get it to power on - not with the remote nor with the power button on the tv. The radio is on the same circuit and works fine. The tv is plugged in the 12v dc in back. The fuse there seems fine too. Any ideas?  I’ll try to call tech support tomorrow, but thought someone might have some ideas.

Are there the batteries good in the remote?

@cottonmouth, sorry for the very long response, but I'll take a stab at this.  If nothing else, you can go through the following possibilities with Jensen tech support while trying to diagnose the power issue.

Initially, this sounds like a blown fuse to me.  However, if you have not already done it, first confirm that you have a good electrical connection behind the television.  Disconnect and re-attach the power cord to be sure it is making a secure connection.

If that does not work, give the inline fuse behind the television another look.  You have indicated that it seems fine, but I'm not clear on what that means.  Did you test it with a meter, or did you only visually look at it to determine if the fuse filament looks OK?  If it still appears OK, and you can't independently test it, consider picking up a new fuse (I believe it is a 7.5A mini fuse) at an auto parts or hardware store and give that a try.

Additionally, you wrote that you recall that you had a difficult time getting the television to work.  If it is not an electrical/fuse issue, and the television previously worked, I'm thinking that maybe the answer has to do with something you did while trying to get it to work.  Therefore, try to recall/re-trace your steps.  If you made any changes to the television (or radio) setup or option menus (e.g., turned a setting "on" or "off"), that may be what is causing the problem.  Hopefully, you have the owner's manual, because it describes the various settings you can change.  (If you attached a separate device (e.g., DVD player) to the TV with an HDMI cable, did you change any settings at that time?)

AND, HERE'S A LONG SHOT:  I recall in the past that a T@B owner had an issue with their television mysteriously turning on, without being turned on via the power switch or remote.  Turns out that it was because the "alarm" setting on the Jensen radio had been inadvertently set using the settings on the radio.  If a setting on the radio isn't contributing to the "power" issue, then maybe there is a similar setting on the television.  Regarding the radio, I made the following note to myself at the time:

"Check to see if the alarm for the Jensen head unit (stereo) was accidentally turned on (can happen while setting the time.)  The alarm wakes the head unit up and in turn sends a control signal to the television to turn it on.  Turn off the alarm at the radio and the problem should go away."

My Jensen model is different than yours, but the radio setting options are probably the same/similar.  In the event you don't have the Jensen radio owner's manual with you, I have included below some settings that are probably similar on your radio.  IF you changed any settings on the radio (e.g., set the time), the info may help you in diagnosing what may have occurred.  Sorry for the large font.  I copied it from the owner's manual:

The following settings can be adjusted:

SLEEP TIMER: select the sleep time from 0 (OFF), 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. The sleep timer will automatically turn off the JWM70A in designated number of minutes.
ALARM (ON/OFF): to turn the alarm function on or off.
ALARM SET: The hour clock digit will flash, Rotate the VOL/ENTER knob clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the hour. Press the ENTER knob to access the minute adjustment. Press the ENTER knob again to save the alarm time and return to ALARM ON/OFF setting.
CLOCK SET: The hour clock digit will flash, Rotate the VOL/ENTER knob clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the hour. Press the ENTER knob to access the minute adjustment. Press the ENTER knob again to save the clock time.

Thank you Bayliss.  That’s very helpful. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring my multimeter to test the fuse. I may just try picking one up. We’re getting on the road so will attempt to call tech support. I’ll play with the radio some more. Jensen has gone “green” so all of their manuals are online.

@cottonmouth, I just thought about some other points to consider when there appears to be no power to the Jensen TV.  The first point might just be the issue you are experiencing, particularly if the fuse is OK:

    1.  When using the remote to control the television, remember that you will probably need to press the "TV" button on the remote, then the "power" button.  Obviously, there has to be power going to the television first, but you could actually have power and not realize it since you had not pressed the "TV" button on the remote (but, see #2 regarding the blue "stand-by" light, which does confirm there is power to the television.)

    2.  You did not mention it, but did you check to see if the blue light on the front of the television is illuminated?  When the blue light is visible, that confirms there is power to the television, but it is actually “Off” (i.e., in “Standby” mode.)  The blue light will turn off when you press the power button on the television, because it will be "on" at that point.  If you see the blue light (i.e., the television is in "Standby" mode), and you power on the television and the light goes out, but nothing is displayed on the screen, in addition to pressing the "TV" button on the remote, you may also need to press the "Source" button (one or more times) to get to the correct source for viewing a program.

    3.  Probably not your situation, but this is just to help others who may read this post in the future:  I recall that another T@B owner once discovered that when their 12V battery had inadvertently been run down and needed to be re-charged, that after re-charging the battery, they needed to unplug, and re-plug in, the television electrical connection to get power.  Apparently, that reset the television.

I'm looking forward to hearing how this issue gets resolved for you.  Good luck!

No blue light. I pushed several buttons on the remote. Tv then power, power then tv. I don’t remember if I pushed source. I’ll fiddle with it at our stop soon. I’ve got a new fuse I can try too. Jensen tech wasn’t too helpful. Maybe you should go into business!😃

If you do not have a blue light on the TV, you are not getting power to it, so it will not work.  Try unplugging the power connection and plugging it back in. If that still does not get a blue light power on, then remove the little panel under the foot of the bed, next to the galley cabinet, see if the TV power wire is connected under there.  The TV cables are in the black flex tube.

@Denny16, my comments above assume that the television on the 2021 T@B 400 (and/or your 2018 T@B 400) is the same, or very similar to, the television I have in my 2019 T@B 320 S (i.e., model #JTV19DC.)

Although it sounds like @cottonmouth's television is not getting power (for reasons as yet unknown), as I described above, assuming there is in fact power going to the television, when you turn it on (whether with the power button on the television, or the remote), the blue light will turn off.

Again, assuming there is in fact power going to the television (and no blue light visible), but there is no picture or sound, then there is a good possibility that some setting on the television has changed, OR the "TV" (and/or "Source") button on the remote needs to be selected to watch a TV program.

Regardless, if there is an electrical connection under the panel adjacent to the galley (which is a location I don't have on my trailer), it is definitely worth checking.  On my television, other than uninterrupted electrical wires behind the wall, as far as I recall the only connection that could potentially come loose is visible at the back of the television.

If @cottonmouth has a different Jensen model than mine (or yours), that is something to factor into troubleshooting the power issue, but my guess is that the electrical connections are similar.  Whatever the actual model number, it is definitely worth the effort to review the model specific owner's manual, and/or search Google for a similar issue and possible resolution.  I have done that a bit in an effort to help @cottonmouth, but so far have not found anything beyond what has already been discussed here.

Thanks, but would not unplugging and then replaying the power connection on the back,of,the TV reset any on state, and return it to standby, allowing the blue light to come back on?  Best bet would be to metermthe connection at the back of the TV.
    cheers

Oh man. I was just about to pull the panels and retrace the wiring. I pulled the 12v dc plug out of the back of the tv and out of the corner of my eye I saw the blue light flicker. After a couple of wiggles and sliding it just right, I got it to come on again. I think there’s an issue with the dc plug at the tv.

Fantastic, @cottonmouth.  Congratulations.  I guess it's time to contact Jensen to see how they will rectify the issue under warranty.

@Denny16, yes, that would re-energize the electronics in the television and cause the blue light to come on as the television powers up in "stand-by" mode, just as it did when @cottonmouth adjusted the power cord connection.  However, as long as there continues to be power to the television, when it is turned "on" (to watch a television program), the blue light will turn off.  My home television works the same way.  When I turn the television "off," the "stand-by" light again illuminates as the television returns to "stand-by."

That is what I thought.  Mine is in the shop, so unable to test this out.

During your travels, track down a Harbor Freight and pick up one of their famous inexpensive/free volt meters and keep it in your T@B.
