What model year did NuCamp shift the axle forward? Was it 2019 with the air8? And have they maintained that with the 2021? Or did they shift it? I seem to recall that discussed...
No, the 2019 had the heavy tongue with the CoolCat up front, then the 2020 they used the Air8 in the rear to reduce the tongue weight, and they shifted the axle on the 2021 400 to help offset tongue weight.
Not sure if correct or not, but "Paul the Air Force Guy" says they moved it forward 3" to compensate for moving heavier stuff forward. I wonder if it impacts sway or balance about the same since weight distribution similar?
Yes, offset the weight of heavier stuff in front of the axle...like maybe the new front tub. @NorCalMike - by the time owners add their extra propane tank, water jugs, bikes and geni to the front platform, I suspect sway won’t be an issue.
It gets confusing with al,the changes. The 2018/2019 had the same frame axle arrangement and CoolCat AC. Our 2018 TaB400 with a heavy truck aluminum tool box on the tongue in place of the tub, weighed in around 400 lbs with empty propane bottle and 1/2 water tank. The nüCamp new Aluminum tongue box is lighter than that tool box.
In 2020 nüCamp switched to the Air8 to reduce tongue weight a little and shifted the 200 lbs of batteries behind the Air8 (previously the batteries were in the front pax side storage box under the bunk.
In 2021, nüCamp went back to the Cool Cat, and shifted the axle forward about 3” to compensate for the added weight of the CoolCat. The new aluminum box is a little heavier than the previous ABS box, and a little larger, so,the axle shift also helped here. cheers
