Alde 3010 Compact (alligator clips on second fuse location)

I discovered alligator clips bridging second fuse location. I bought a 2015 T@B CS-S used a few years back, so I assume previous owner did this. Does anyone have any idea that this is common? Any idea of the danger of this approach? My assumption is they had a fuse that consistently blew, and they did not want to address that. If anyone has any thoughts, please respond, and thank you.

The 3010 models had a history of blowing a fuse, so the work around was to wire the Alde ground wire directly to the battery.  We also recommend to make sure to turn off the Alde BEFORE disconnecting shorepower.  This will prevent an Alde power surge and blown fuse the next time the TaB is connected to shorepower.

I would remove the bridge, replace the fuse, and with the Alde turned off, plug in and see what happens.  Get a few spare fuses before, though.

Along with the advice to turn the Alde power off,  I changed the fuses from "fast blow" to "slow blow." (There were several threads on this issue and the fuse change.  Got pretty good at changing fuses until I made the switch. But, with the slow blow I haven't had one blow in a 2 years.
PS:  Would love to see a photo of the "alligator clip" solution.  Haven't seen that before!

I'm curious if Alde actually changed any of the circuitry in the 3020 models, or if they just eliminated that fuse on the negative leg. Funny that it caused repeated issues for some owners but no problems at all for others.

I think for a few years of the 3010 and the "improved" touchscreen, we were just beta testers for Alde.  Or maybe NuCamp improved the ground substantially.  It would be interesting to compare ground wiring for the Aldes across those years.

My suspicion is that the 2nd fuse is a carry over from EU. There they are operated on 240 volts and would need a fuse in each hot wire. When 240 is converted to 120 , the fuse in the ground is removed. It can actually create a hazard if that fuse blows and the current can't get returned. In my working career, I saw several devices (previous to auto switching between 120 and 240) that had to be hard wire configured depending on the voltage and the "2nd fuse removal" was always part of that.

Fusing the negative wire is actually against NEC Code.

That's a good observation, but aren't those glass fuses on the 12V DC side? I'm not sure if or how that differs across the pond.
