    Two coats of clear nail polish worked nicely on ours, still good a year later.

    The clear Polycrylic coating I used 3 years back is still working preventing any  streaking.  A very simple fix...
    Since your's is still holding out after 3 years on a trailer, can you tell us what you bought? Sound like it's a good brand
