The part 'ya have to watch for in the wine process is when they stomp on 'em. They get kind of ornery if 'ya get too close to their pickins! If 'ya bring your own glass and some "shine" you're usually a welcome visitor, just don't stay too long, or give 'em too much "shine"!

Ratkity, I almost forgot, never, ever teach 'em how to make huckleberry daiquiris or huckleberry ice cream, they'll NEVER leave 'ya alone! The black bear wasn't too bad, but the brown one was BIG, and a grizzly, so I decided not to invite 'em in!

Never been around bears other than the smaller, somewhat docile ones in MN/WI. Any good sources of info out there - Will probably be heading into bear territory this fall. I guess not being a wino they won't see me as a threat to their berry/grape sources so that's a plus :-)
Lucky me, the real scaredy cat with the thought of bears....one evidently swam across the Ohio River from Kentucky and is making its way north/northeastward into Indiana. I guess I need to be more diligent with camping and smells in my campsite in Indiana.
Per the DNR, do not feed, do not leave trash out, do not feed birds March to April, do not put sweets or meat in compost, do not try to make contact with the bear and do not try to harass the bear. Trust me...I will comply!
This is only the second official bear sighting in Indiana in 140 years. One came from Michigan last year, roamed around, went back home to Michigan where DNR officials were forced to euthanize it because it had became unafraid of people. DNR does not want that to happen to this bear.

Don't know the legality of this in your particular States, but loud fireworks are what the game warden gave the Camp Host where I just came from [M80 I believe], and told him give a toss @ the bears if they came too close. Said the noise in conjunction with the percussion usually persuades them to go elsewhere. Like I said before, make a lot of noise while hiking, loud talking, and/or a loud whistle work well. [would love to see PXL with an air horn strapped to his belt!]

We keep a small air horn in our T@B. Have only used it when backpacking. They think I'm a semi.
