How to attach a link within your discussion

I have failed the T@B Forum "link" too many times.  Am I wrong to try and paste it into the url box that comes up when you select the link icon?  Whenever I do that, I get a http and a https.  What am I doing wrong?

@SAM, I took a look at your recent post with the broken link. I think the problem--as you noted--is that the address in the url box is "http://https//..."

Any address should only start with one of these or the other. You may have left the default http in place when you pasted in your link.

Regardless, if you are simply pasting a full link into a post, I don't think you even need to twiddle with the link icon. The http automatically identifies what you have pasted or typed as a hyperlink (just like it did in my first sentence...) 

If I understand correctly, the link icon is for when you want to do something like this!

@SAM, I tried to fix your link but it still doesn’t work.  Hummmmmm......I’m terrible with links, too. I think it might be Vanilla’s dislike of all things Apple

Well, my link is identical to Marceline's and mine does not work and it was from a Dell PC, Verna!  Scott said to just copy and paste into the body of the comment, but I still want to know how to use the link icon.

When I point my cursor at your link and click "copy link address" (instead of just clicking on your link) it shows this as your link when I paste it into notepad:

http://https//www.amazon.com/Viair-00073-Heavy-Portable-Compressor/dp/B0012WHBSO

For some reason there's an extra "http://" at the beginning.
I don't know why this is.

I originally copied and pasted into the link address box and it then showed up like that.

Thanks to @db_cooper, @SAM, and @Marceline .  Your suggestions give me a great starting point.

When you use the link address box menu option, it automatically fills in the "http://" at the beginning, so if you don't erase that "http://" before pasting your link you end up with "http://https//....."

@verna - You fixed SAM's link but left out the colon just after http.  Should be http://, not http//



(the text in the post is correct, its the underlying link that is missing the colon)

I fixed it by copying and pasting Marceline's link.  Geesh!

The link icon is for when you want to make a word or phrase of plain test into a hyperlink. See the example in the last sentence of my post above.

In that case, I highlighted the word "this" then used the link icon to assign the address "https://tab.nucamprv.com/"

Now when you click the hyperlinked word, you go directly to the nuCamp web site!

Of course, just pasting a link into the body of your text work equally well. This link icon just allows you to polish the presentation a bit and reduce the clutter created by sometimes long web addresses.

I tried this same thing a dozen times yesterday and couldn’t get it to work. It worked the 4th time today!

I only recently discovered the hyperlink function myself, but have been putting it to good use!

However, I'm committed to staying "old school" with my smilies...  :-)

I have noticed the hyperlink feature seems to be a little wonky, particularly if you make a mistake and then try to edit it. In those cases I resort to just starting over.

I haven't really had the inclination to try and figure out its mysteries. It seems to work fine most of the time.
