My new T@B Outback MaxS has an A/C. It works great....only one problem. The vents point to ceiling and are about an inch away from the ceiling. I am not sure this is something that can be fixed without trading out A/C. Has anyone else had this issue? While it is pointed at the ceiling, nothing below gets cool. the vents are fixed so they cannot be changed as far as direction. Anybody have a fix for this?

Some have swapped it out for a Fridgidaire model that allows you to direct the vents and has the ability to set ut to a temperature. I have one waiting to the same swap.Jellybones11 said:My new T@B Outback MaxS has an A/C. It works great....only one problem. The vents point to ceiling and are about an inch away from the ceiling. Ours isn't pointed to the ceiling but is pointed straight ahead. We used it last night and it worked great, but I think it would be helpful to have vents that turn down in hotter weather.

We had the same issue with our AC only blowing cold air along the ceiling. Found an old plastic yard sale sign and cut it to 15 x 15 and rounded the corners . Slipped it between the top of the AC and the surround frame. Turned on AC fan and adjusted overhang for air flow and to be out of head bump area. Put velcro hook dot on AC and loop dot on sign to hold in place. Sign plastic curves enough to cause air to flow downward more into cabin area. Picture is not the greatest, but shows end result. Hope this provides a solution.

I've found that pointing it towards the back wall helps, as the cool air bounces off of it. Even better is a small fan on the kitchen counter to move the cool air around. Good luck!2017 T@B 320 Max S silver and cherry red, L@dybug ("Bug" aka my esc@pe pod), TV 2015 Toyota Highlander aka Big Red

leave the vent towards the back or front ... you want that warmer air at the ceiling to circulate 5,000 btus is plenty to cool T@B down... stay cool & happy camping2017 T@B CS-S Max ... 2020 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E

Pika1, I plan on getting one of these air deflectors to point the air towards the bottom of the trailer (thus getting rid of the cardboard I currently have in place). Just need to double check my AC size.

Amazon is kind of expensive. It also comes in a smaller size for less than $5.

Been using my air conditioning for 6 weeks straight on a very hot summer road trip. The vents look pretty bad and it looks like the only way I can slide out the filter to clean or replace is to take the air condioner out of the wall space. You cannot slide the filter out because the wall is in the way.

The filter on your AC is like yours. It slides out to the right. Our filter is flexible enough to remove for cleaning. Yes. It does not need to be large, at all. I have a very small USB fan I use for this.Homebodyatheart said:Even better is a small fan on the kitchen counter to move the cool air around. Good luck!
I really struggle to get mine out and have to use something the to coax the filter out at first by slipping something under the tab on the filter for leverage to get it started. If that still does not work, there are just a couple of screws holding the wood trim around the opening and it takes just a moment to remove the trim.Dalehelman said:

Thank you! It does look flexible. Very cool!

Thought Id put in my 2 cents. My girlfriend and myself first time running the ac in about 85 degree weather we’re very disappointed initially as we couldn’t even feel the thing. I had a thought if I reverse the fantastic fan to blow inward it would blow the air from the ac shooting right over toward the ceiling fan down where were sitting. Worked amazing instantly, about froze us out had to turn down the unit. They should have used a unit with better adjustable vents, but this worked real good. Just crack the vent enough so it lets the fan come on. Haven’t been in real heat 100 plus yet so can’t speak to that but this really helped a lot.

I have those and they work great!. That and a dehumidifier is all you need to stay freezing cold in the Texas summer.BioGrl408 said:Pika1, I plan on getting one of these air deflectors to point the air towards the bottom of the trailer (thus getting rid of the cardboard I currently have in place). And for any recent forum members with an overhead A/C box, lotso T@bbers have noticed the biggest way to keep the camper cooler in high humidity / heat (aside from the extra dehumidifier) is to stop the A/C from pulling in hot air into the inlets inside that box. Even with aux fan on there's a lot of mixing of intake and exhaust air flow in the stock configuration... lessening the A/C's efficiency.
There's plenty of older threads filled with folks adding deflectors or complete separation hardware to prevent the hot A/C exhaust from getting sucked back into the box, or from mixing with any intake air flows. Smoke tests, multi-day temperature logging, CFD runs, etc.I'm grateful for all their efforts... and similarly have found isolating the input and output flows on the secondary side (inside the box) has made the biggest difference in the Texas heat.
