Forgot to include this shot of how I keep the trap door open while winterizing the pump. I put a small screw-eye in the wall (there is sturdy plywood there) with a 1.5" metal ring close to where the finger-handle on the open door is located, so it's easy to latch & unlatch. A piece of string or wire would work too, but I had this nice looking ring left over from the hub of an old computer hard drive I took apart. Had to bend the handle slightly to give it a bit more of a hook so it wouldn't easily slip off. I put some caulk on the threads of the screw before screwing it into the predrilled hole in the wall, to keep water from getting into the wood.
