Hello everyone. We just picked up on our 2018 T@b Outback – used. Apparently, the original owners used it on one very short trip and decided it was way too small, so they switched to the 400. I think we were lucky, being in the right place at the right time (all new spring inventory coming in and not much space at the dealership) so we got it a very nice price.
We’ve been backpack camping for most of our lives, but are starting a new adventure in life and this fits in nicely. We plan on using it to explore parts of the west that we may want to eventually settle in.
I had one quick question about a possible modification – my husband is over 6 feet and quite good at woodworking, etc. I was wondering if anyone has modified the door at the bottom of the passenger side bench (near the fire extinguisher) to swing upward, extending into a platform? I thought he may be able to resize the door, and using hinges like these (https://www.walmart.com/ip/2-pack-100N-Hydraulic-Gas-Strut-Lift-Support-Cabinet-Hinge-Kitchen-Cupboard-Door-Gas-Spring-Shocks/739533359) to make it level with the end of the bench when open.
I also want to thank everyone for this forum. It’s actually what sold us on a T@b vs. other makes. Hope to see people on the road!
