Sienna minivan spare tire storage

I don’t think I have seen this noted before.  We have a Toyota Sienna minivan for towing.  Last month, we found that we can store the Tab spare in the boot where the driver side third row seat lives.  We were able to fit our jack in the compartment, too.  Since we have a system of plastic crates for gear, I just layered several foam interlocking mat pieces to form a solid base over the tire.  If we ever need it, it is easy to remove the crates and mats.  So much better than carrying it on the van roof (UV exposure and wind noise, theft) or in the open cabin.  It and the jack does add about 50 # behind the axle.

Interesting idea! We generally need the seat stored there in our Sienna to get access to the full cargo area for carrying bicycles.  If we were to do that, I suppose we could remove that 3rd row seat.  Our spare is mounted on the tongue jack, but good to know we have another option if our tongue should ever get too crowded.

I think it simplifies things for us, too.
