Vodka is not the answer

I realize those in mild climates have a lot of fun posting photos and joking about winterizing with vodka, but it should be done so, cautiously. It is a novelty. I get it.

Vodka can freeze at temperatures as high as -7F, so this is not a good idea in cold climates. It is not unusual to get below that temperature north if the Mason-Dixon Line. Second, rv antifreeze is non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless. Third, rv antifreeze is pink and a visible reminder that you need to dewinterize in the spring.

Feel free to use vodka if you like, but please do not recommend that everyone use as it is not suitable for cold climates.

My nephew introduced me to a chocolatini (OMG!) this summer, used vanilla vodka. First time I’ve ever liked the stuff!

That all depends on what it is you're trying to winterize.  Just ask Vladimir and Viktor!

As for winterizing, I prefer to blow the lines out with air, empty the pump and add in the pink RV antifreeze to my sink, shower and toilet areas.  If I were staying in Michigan through the winter I would also empty out the gallon of RV antifreeze added (2 gallons total) to the gray and black tanks, place a screen over the outlet where both dump from (to keep critters out) and leave both valves open.  This allows both tanks to dry out.  I’ve done this before per instructions from a dealer and never had any issues.

The hard part is waiting till next spring.  I prefer gin and tonics with a cucumber ice cube!
