Alde not working

After working recently on both propane and shore power, our Alde decided not to work last night. Fuses looked good but I changed them anyway......didn't solve the problem.   I have the electrical cord at the Alde zip-tied so it doesn't jiggle loose on rough roads so that's not the problem.   Glycol fluid is OK.  I checked all the fuses in the converter box and tripped and reset the breakers, still doesn't work.  What am I missing?   Our T@B is a 2015 model with the 3010 version of Alde.

  • Is the control panel working? Are there any fault messages? Have you tried resetting the Alde in the control panel?

  • Turn off your battery switch (just to confirm that your shorepower hookup is working). Everything else working on shorepower?  Any previous problems charging your battery via the converter on shorepower?

  • The 3010 model of Alde doesn’t have the control panel like newer models. The only error message it reports is a red light if there is a malfunction well I’m propane.

What exactly is it doing--or not doing? When you operate the sliders do you hears any clicks, whirrs, or other sounds from Alde, or is completely silent?

So, with the battery disconnected, do all the other appliances work on shorepower?
Have you noticed any problems charging your battery while on shorepower?  Trying to rule out any converter issues.

  • When I turn the battery switch off, relying just on shore power, everything works, except for the Alde.   When I cut the power at the campground pedestal, everything works on battery.   Battery is only a few months old, a Trojan 100 ah AGM.   Previous to last night, we camped for three nights without electricity, relying on our solar panels to keep the battery charged.   Still open to suggestions here........

Just to confirm, the Alde does not work when disconnected from shorepower and only on battery with propane?

There may be an issue between the boiler and the controls.  Open up the top of the Alde and disconnect the 12V cable.  Reinstall after a few minutes.  That may reset the Alde.

By 12v cable, do you mean the 110 plug attached to the outlet in the Alde compartment, previously zip-tied so it wouldn't come loose?

No.  Open the top of the Alde where the fuses are located.  Let me find the picture…

Is it the corrugated cable that goes to the converter?

Thanks, I will disconnect that cable, the battery switch, and the campground power pedestal and wait several minutes.

Not working yet.........would the battery fuse have anything to do with the Alde not working?  I've never checked that, since everything that is supposed to work on just battery......does.

If your battery fuse was blown, the circuit would be interrupted.  If the battery delivers power, the fuse is most likely good.

There is a discussion regarding replacing the Alde thermal fuse.  Chan did this.  Or, you may need a new circuit board or maybe just a new controller.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

Another thought - ?loose wire behind the control panel?

FWIW there is an emergency procedure: On top of the Alde system, disconnect 12V and the control panel connector, jump pin 2 and 9 in the control panel socket, reconnect 12V. It will run on gas with no temperature adjustment and the pump running constantly.

@T@Balong, did you ever check the two 3.15A glass fuses in the green holders on top of the Alde?

Without systematic diagnosis, this can be a wild goose chase. T@Balong, please confirm the following details just to make sure I understand everything correctly:
    • On battery and propane the Alde works normally.
    • On shore power with the battery OFF, the Alde does not work at all on either electricity or propane. It makes no sounds (clicks, whirrs, etc.) when you turn it on.
    • On shore power with the battery OFF, all other 12V devices (lights, water pump, fan, etc.) work normally. I.e., only the Alde doesn't work.

Got it. Regardless of the fuel source, the Alde requires 12VDC for the electronics to work. This can come from either the battery or the converter (when hooked up to shore power).

That the Alde works on battery suggests that the Alde itself is fine, as is the circuit connecting the Alde to the WFCO power center (usually called the "converter" but the converter is only one component of the power center). This includes all the fuses as well (which you have already checked).

That all other 12VDC devices (lights, etc) work when on shore power suggests that the converter itself is fine.

That the Alde doesn't work AT ALL on shore power with the battery disconnected suggests that the Alde 12VDC power circuit is not getting power from the converter.

This would be a very odd circumstance, but could derive from a broken or loose connection internal to the power center. Unfortunately, tracking that down or even suggesting where to look is outside the scope of my experience. Good luck and let us know when and if you get it sorted.

I do appreciate your thoughtful analysis. I am trying to contact an Alde service center to see what the next steps might be
