    I repurposed an old broom handle...works perfect for us! Attached to end of window valance and bench seat above the fire extinguisher mount.

    Similar to what TheBellHop did above. I repurposed a homemade hiking stick, about 58" in length. Perfect size. It was slightly bowed out (curved) just below the top which gave it a natural handle shape. I added a leather a strap, varnished it and used brass bolts and acorn nuts as fasteners. It is securely attached to the upper shelf and the lower bench.  Details are here.

    Holy jumpin whatever. This fat old man needs something to grab onto climbing into this thang. My knees  and back are shot. Way too many years football, jogging, rowing machine and the weights. I am however glad to be here. 82 and still grumpy.
