Step Bolts Fell Off

Just one more thing to check as you get ready for the season: I found a nut underneath the camper (never a good sign) and found that three of the four bolts holding the retractable step have lost their nut. Fortunately the bolts are sort of captive in the space so they did not fall out entirely. The lock washers are not doing their job. I replaced them with a nylock nuts,  but I suppose loctite would be good too.

This old thread made me add some loctite to the nuts on mine a while ago...

Glad you caught it before it caused an injury...
A good item to add to the seasonal check list.

Or, you can replace the nuts with locking nyloc nuts.  You likely have to remove the washers to ensure the nylon engages the threads.

A few years ago, my step suffered the missing nut problem while traveling. I found some standard hex nuts in my spare parts box and used two at each location to lock against each other. When home, I ordered nylon locking nut to replace my jury rigged fix, but to this day have not gotten around to swapping them out. I like to think "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but it really me just being lazy.  :s  .
