Mid-trip review of Haven 220
We have been on this trip for a little over a month. Going from PA>>MI>>UP>>WI>>MN>>IA>>WY>>MT>>ID>>WA and now in Oregon. The trailer has done quite well, with the exception of some questionable design decisions and assembly faux-pas.
We have posted previously about the awning - no idea why nucamp would ‘hide’ a valuable feature like a wind sensor for the awning? We also fail to understand why there is not an exhaust fan in the main cabin. If the windows aren’t open or the air is not on, any cooking instantly sets off the smoke alarm, lol. Luckily, we prefer to cook outside. We also wish they had made the overhead storage and counter a little deeper. Some things we routinely stored in the T@B400 simply will not fit and are under the bed or in bins in outside storage. Not a deal breaker by any means.
Issues:
- Almost every corner of every surface has a small overhang of the laminate; like it simply wasn’t trimmed? Some of these can be quite sharp, and we have been cut reaching into cubbies under the bed.
- Assembly: One of the purposes of this trip was to visit our son, who now lives in Redmond, WA. He wanted to stay in the camper one night, as our campground was an hour from his house. So we set the dinette into a bed, and as soon as we put weight on it, it collapsed. The screws used to secure the shelf ledges for the table top were no where near long enough; only piercing the underlying wood by maybe ¼”. We ran over to home depot and bought some longer screws and it was fine, but WTH?
- Outside outlet: First time plugging anything in, went to unplug it and the outlet pulled right out of the wall. The electric box is a remodel type with ears, and they had simply never been set.
- One of the struts that hold the bed up simply fell out - this was before we even left home. We tried larger screws to no avail, and ended up putting small machine bolts/washers/nuts to make it secure. There really should be a counter sunk plate on top of the wood.
- Fan over the toilet screen would not stay in. I ended up putting a little screw in to hold it in place.
- We had the trailer in to nucamp for service, and while there they replaced one panel due to the white laminate peeling. We now have another panel peeling - not where there is any moisture or anything. This could have simply been a bad batch of glue or something.
Overall we love the trailer and it is performing well. We would tell folks to get the lithium package only for the larger inverter and the fact that every outlet works. I can practically have the entire setup packed and ready to go before my wife gets up in the morning, lol.

@gkreitzburg, sorry to hear you are having some issues. I appreciate you taking time to share them with the group.
I see you came from a 2023 T@B 400. How would you compare the overall build quality of the 400 to the Haven?
How has your towing experience been with the Haven compared to the 400, considering it's both longer and heavier?
I'm guessing the extra floor space has been a welcome change. Do you miss the style and uniqueness of the teardrop design at all?
Knowing what you know now, would you still buy the Haven over another T@B 400?
Please continue to share updates from your journey. I'd be interested to hear how things go as you put more miles on the trailer.

I would say that the build quality was better in 400. Not by much; we never had any problems with the tab - but the cabinetry seemed somehow a bit more solid, and no sharp edges, lol. The haven tows about the same with our tundra - this is a little more noticeable. We would still buy this over the tab for the walk around bed and the larger bathroom.

Thank you for the information. We often talk about how nice a dry bath would be as well as a walk around bed. However, for us at this season of camping style, the 400 continues to serve us well. I can see someday though considering a Haven.

yeah. We took a two week trip last year and decided the only thing we didn't like was the bed access and no clothing storage. The 400 does have the nicest wet bath we ever saw, though.
