My version of heat vents for the rear shelf

T

I'm a woodworker, with a speciality in scroll sawing. With the blank "canvas" of the rear shelf, I couldn't resist scrolling some of my favorite patterns that will allow heat to flow through them.

The photos were taken in the house, given the lack of sunshine outside for a few days. The IU is at the passenger side (photos overlap) and the T@B is over the glycol reservoir. I am installing additional bracing to hold the shorter pieces in place. While it's hard to see the butterfly and the hummingbird, I know they are there ;-).

I did staple screening to the underside to catch any stray items that may try to fall into the abyss of the Alde fins!

Thank you, everyone. I've been working on it off and on over the past couple of weeks and finally fnished it yesterday. It's always fun when I can combine art with function.

I've been scrolling for well over 30 years, some for profit and not enough for fun. My original intent for life after retirement was to have my own business. But, I found traveling, in Little Guy teardrops in particular. It's hard to take one of my scrollsaws with me camping, so that's a no-go. I still kerp looking at the foot-pedal scrollsaw plans I have, and trying to figure if I could make it in a knock-down version so I could have a non-electric powered saw with me while traveling. There's always next year!

I don't have an Alde, but there ought to be some excuse I could find to put something like that in the T@B.  Nice!

Very talented!! Absolutely gorgeous! There was a woman at my Aunt's retirement community who made special wooden puzzles with animal shapes all throughout, had irregular edging and usually a mirror image of an amazing painting. You have taken that gift to another level! I'm so glad you got to stay in one place long enough to have fun with your gift. Thank you for sharing your picts!!! Just fabulous.

That's some nice work there! Maybe one day I can cut some fleur-de-lis into mine. We're still in the "eek, no holes" stage of ownership though.

Nice work, you should offer to start doing them for tab owners, I know I would gladly pay someone with your talent to do mine.

Stephan is right, V. You know the dimensions of the shelf and could make set patterns to sell to T@B owners when you are in one place with your scrolling saws!! Shipping would probably be a concern and setting up the shelves as halves would be less cost prohibitive.  Just, um... a small biz suggestion. Not like you probably don't have a bizillion things to do already! :)

I'm resurrecting this old thread to show off Verna's woodworking skill.   After our latest ski adventure I decided to just make some simple holes in our rear shelf to dry gloves and hats and things, and it came out horrible!

I taped both sides and carefully drilled some holes,  hole sawed others, and the veneer still splintered and was impossible to sand without making it worse.

At least it will be functional. ;)
