Coffee making ---- For those of us who are hard core drinkers

Now, we've been camping for 42 years, and first thing in the morning we lug out the coleman stove, put on a kettle, and heat some water. From there, we could go to the instant (yuck), or better, we could get out our carafe, put the funnel on top with coffee grounds, and run it through.... Ahhh.... great. Now, with a camper with have a few more options. We can continue as before outside. Or, we could do the same procedure inside. I don't see an electric maker working, keurig or otherwise, unless hooked up to shore power. I'm sure there is a vast majority of people here that are hooked on the Java. I would like to hear from them....

Look in the LG store, they do make 12V coffee makers. I'm sure if you look @ Amazon, there could be more offers for them there, or maybe Camping World as well.

A simple French press makes excellent coffee, and all you need to do is boil water, inside or outside. Google "Keurig landfill" before deciding to go that route.

Nobody drinks more coffee than me - you'll rarely see me without my coffee cup. Personally, I use an old-time perc on the stove inside for the first hit. I don't have an aversion to instant - always a large jar onboard - so the rest of the day is either instant or a big thermos of truck stop coffee.

Every large trucker oriented gas station usually has dc operated appliances on the shelf also.

Got a press - Find it a pain to clean when watching water supply so it has sat idle for a year - Maybe I'll dig it out and leave it on the picnic table as a surprise gift.
Hate dealing with the grounds - Even with the perc but at least they're contained in the filter.

Really, the only mess-free option is instant. Acceptable when you must have coffee.

Instant coffee acceptable? Not!

The French press is a pain for ease of cleaning. The Aeropress is simpler that way, paper filter, a quick rinse will do for 4 out of 5 cups. Then I'll take some dish soap to it.

Finding good ground coffee can be a challenge, in some of those 'backwater' towns that are so nice to find.

We have used a percolator for several years, but are thinking of switching to a plain tea kettle and pour over. It gives us more options, especially as I drink as much tea as I do coffee. It's also less mess to clean up.

Very happy with this model. Put a K-cup in the base, fill with boiling water, place over your coffee mug, and gently press down on the top. Takes about 5 presses to get all the water through the K-cup and into your mug. ZERO clean-up. Simply remove the K-cup and toss in the trash. Use a stronger blend than what you're used to. Only $14 at Amazon.com

Have an electric drip coffeemaker for when I have shore power; stores under the sink behind the drain trap. Have a french press for when I don't have shore power, and yes, dealing with the grounds are a pain - may have to take a look at that Aeropress. I keep a box of Starbucks instant for emergencies (and to mix with a pack of instant hot cocoa). I don't like most instant coffee, and I don't particularly like Starbucks coffee from their shops, but the instant is pretty good when you're in an "instant coffee situation."

Obviously there are a lot of options out there. If we have electricity at the site, I heat up water in an electric teapot, usually outside on a table, under the awning, using the external outlet. Otherwise my WhisperLite stove. Then I use a manual drip pot (like the Amish use) which makes about ten cups. After the first few cups, the rest goes in the thermos for later. I've been roasting my own green coffee beans for a couple of years and teamed up with the manual drip pot, in MHO, it's the best coffee I've ever tasted.

Now that one-ups the Moka pot as there would be no grounds to clean up!

@PXLated, what's your coffee budget like?

We use an old-school percolator with paper filters (not perfect). The reviews I read about 12v coffee makers say they take a long time to brew. I'd be chewing my arm off before I had coffee made. I remember seeing a pic of a Nespresso on someone's T@B counter. Wonder how many watts that puppy pulls? We used to have an old Saladmaster 110v percolator, and we loved the coffee it made, but it sounded like someone moaning while it brewed. I will not say more about that.

I've used Starbucks single serving packets when backpacking, but it takes two per mug and they generate more trash than I like. Is their instant coffee available in jars?

To use the Kcups, I'd probably have to plan and have a box dropped at general delivery every so many miles along my route - And you know how much I like to plan so that ain't gonna happen :-)
Haven't seen Starbucks instant in stores - Have to get it at a Starbucks?

The Starbucks instant coffee is available in stores, at least around here.

Just looked up the Myjo, pretty cool device. @PXLated , it also has a filter that you can place fresh grounds in, which may be easier for you to get, and cheaper long term. Smaller and easier to clean then the perk.

The starbucks is their VIA product line. Don't drink coffee myself, but keep some starbucks VIA in my drawer to offer to the coffee drinkers around me (nice and little, seem less waste than the K-cups, unless you use the reusable K-cup brewers).

Well, the myjo looks nice. I showed it to my wife and she thought if we went that route we'd need a new kettle. She sent me a pic of this one, a levelone collapsible kettle.. Sheesh...
