TV Gas Mileage...

So I'm curious what type of gas mileage you get... I'm towing with a 2014 Ford Escape 2.0L with a towing capacity of 3500# and on my way home from the dealer I climbed 3000' ASL to get home and I got about 13.5 mpg.  I do live in a higher elevation (5500' ASL) in AZ and will be traveling up and down the state and into Colorado regularly. 

So the question I have from you seasoned veterans is what type of vehicle and what gas mileage do you normally get.  Setting myself up for expectations on fuel charges that I will need to add for my traveling budgets.  :i_dunno:

    I avg. 13 with a Toyota Tacoma.   I do have larger tires and lots of extra weight.   Bumpers and winch....

    A 30 to 50 percent reduction in fuel economy is typical with most smaller TVs.

    In addition to TV factors, I have noticed for longer trips, the the stream co rd into play. Mil Ieage is abysmal driving against it and better driving with it. I also get better mileage on the mountains, for some reason .

    15.2 mph with 2014 Dodge Durango. Without T@B I get 25 mph on highway.

    I count on 14-15 with my Jeep Wrangler but like Jenn, I get 16-17 at higher elevations even with the hill climbs. Just set an all time low this morning - 9.8 :-(

    Around 15mpg with a Nissan Frontier (4.0L V6). I normally get ~20mpg in mixed driving.

    When this topic has come up before, 15mpg seems to be the magic number where most of us land. Vehicles with better fuel economy to start with seem to take a bigger hit while towing.

    2013 Ford F150...just returned after 9 months on the road and averaged it out --- ~16mpg. I did a lot of non-interstate driving and my speed was about 55mph. Of course the mpg dropped a bit over some high passes.

    99 mpg +......downhill ;) Average about 15-18 mpg with the 2006 Avalanche 5.3L w/ factory tow package and computer controller set in "tow" mode, 8-12 mpg with the '72 Chevy C-10 built 350, but it's sure fun to tow with. In either case, towing the T@B is a breeze.

    I totally agree. If you want to get from point A to point B you're going to have to put gas in it. If I was that concerned about gas mileage, I might as well stay home.

    I like to know, and I have been looking for a good app (Android).  I've tried a few different ones, really I just want to enter the information and also tag it to a location so I know where the fill-up was.

    Suggestions?

    @Cyclonic, mine started out named as Gas Cubby, which it still says on the icon.  But the new name is Fuelly. And you know this is an OS app. It gives me all of your calculations, with me just adding the other info I want. It even allows entries for service, notes and reminders.  I used this first in 2011 when I rented an 2011 Escape for a month long reretirement trip and I wanted to keep track of mileage for their maintenance schedule, plus the cost of the vacation. Then, I started using it faithfully for my 2012 Escape and now for the Tacoma.

    Hopefully there is an Android version for you.

    My question was to determine if my TV was getting the expected mileage or if I needed to have my TV looked at before venturing off this Spring, Summer, & Fall.

    About 13mpg in my FJ Cruiser. Oddly enough, exactly the same in my diesel engined Land Cruiser.

    Between 19-21 with Large Marge (the diesel Q7) or around 24 with Foxy (the Jetta TDI I formerly but still occasionally tow with).  The Q7 does 28-30 unloaded and 44-50 with the Jetta.

    I'm curious to know if anyone tows with the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, mileage should be similar to the Q.  Ford's upcoming F150 will also be diesel and similar maybe.

    Ditto wizard on the Jetta TDI; 45-48 unloaded, 28-30 with our older (and lighter) DM T@B. Speed makes a huge difference, however! Above mpg was below 60 mph; dropped off horribly above 60. Compared to the size of my Jetta, "T@B" = "parachute"!

    My 2013 Escape is also in the 15 mpg range.

    18.2 mpg with my Highlander Hybrid driving into the North Georgia mountains and back to Atlanta to get 200 miles on the new T@B Outback so as to get the brakes set and adjusted before going out west. Out west  and back it was around 16 mpgs. I noticed it varied greatly with the grade of the roads. 11 mpgs climbing from below sea level to 9,000 feet in the Sierras. 31 mpgs from the high Sierras to the Nevada desert. Man what a ride! Not towing I get 25-27 mpg around town and less, around 22 mpg on long trips to Florida. Unlike more orthodox cars, hybrids do better in town than on the highway.

    20.6 on our recent trip, 2007 Lexus 400h on mostly flat ground.  Last weekend we got 18.8 on fairly hilly I270/I70 in Maryland and West Virginia.

    Just drove home today from Bardstown, Kentucky and made 18.4mpg with my Jeep Cherokee.  I did notice that not only do inclines affect gas mileage but also long sections of uneven pavement.

    When towing, typically in the 13 to 16 mpg depending on terrain, headwinds, etc. 2016 GMC Canyon V6 gasoline engine.  I've gotten a bit better mileage at times rarely above 16.  When not towing my overall mpg (city and highway combined) is 19.
