Big Grover,  the pressure relief can drain the cold and there is also another valve in that same line.  can use that also.  I try not to use the pressure relief valve as a drain too often I kinda look at it like one on a hot water heater at home.  Sometimes using the one at home if not used much will start to leak and need to be replaced.  The valve in the line should drain the same as far as I know.

@BigGrover, we use a safety yellow painters pole attached to the front handle with a ball bungie. Sometimes the simplest thing is the best.
