Dalehelman: I've read that it is easy to blow by the inner sale and mess up the brakes. Have you tried this proceedure by Dexter? I've only done bearings the old fashion way with the palm of my hand.

Yes I have very easy. I suggest only using a hand operated grease gun. The trick is not to pump grease in to fast.

Yep, Ron I am guilty of blowing out a seal. Despite my best efforts. Thankfully I have a habit of feeling my bearings when traveling and no harm was done because when the blown out side felt hot I had it looked into. Now I am very reluctant to grease hem myself.

IMHO You have two choices. You can do it yourself or you can allow someone else. Since it is about a 1 on a scale of 1-5. These jobs are generally given to less skilled service people generally with an air powered grease gun. If you are not comfortable with this procedure by all means hire it done.

@Dalehelman, only the head mechanic is allowed to pack and grease wheel bearings at the utility trailer business I take my T@B to. They value their reputation and they intend to keep it. So, if you find a business like this, keep it, and recommend it to your friends.

If you’re around Whiteland, Indiana, Mayes Trailer Sales is the place to go if you’re like me and you’re not a mechanic.

So Dale. I’ve done a forum search on bearing grease and found what kind to use. But do you- or anyone - have a favorite brand?

Fortunately, I have a similar situation. The shop I take mine to has been in business for 30+ years, and it is owner-operated. If you are going to have someone else do your bearings, in my opinion, this is the best situation.

Not really. Just wheel bearing grease. Boat trailers require a more specific type because they are submerged in water.

I vaguely recall a minimum spec provided in the owner's manual for the axle assembly, but I don't think it's anything special. As Dale suggested, any grease intended for the purpose should meet those specs.

No, you have sealed bearings. Tge Yahoo group will have a lot more detail regarding a Dutchman T@b and maintenance.

I watched the video before my 6,000 mi. trip back in sept.. I used Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease... went Dexter`s website Called nucamp also use Lithium complex grease only... Used about a whole tub of grease for both bearings...

AZ was great the rally was the best, but we came home to early. Still to cold for me.

In the video narration, you mentioned that they come from the factory with very little grease in them. I'm wondering why? We took delivery of our 2018 320S in January and have four outings under our belts, the last one for about two weeks. We probably have 2000-2500 miles on the T@B.

The dealer in Columbus Ohio said they use Mag-1 Red, the same grease that Dexter Axels uses.

We’re we took our T@B in for state inspection a couple weeks ago I had them repack the bearings. The guy asked if we’d been greasing them and we had to say no, we didn’t know how.

It it would be awesome if there was a demonstration of this procedure at uCamp!

Okay, the guy said he put nearly a whole tube of grease in. Shouldn’t you expect to get a whole tube’s worth of old grease out?

We also used just less than 1 tube for both wheels. The old grease moved out ahead of the new grease. @Photomom, did he say that no grease came out?

In the video it looked like a tablespoon or two came out.

@Photomom, it depends on how much grease was in there to start with. The video says that they come from the factory with not much grease. The bearings fill from back to front, so, once you no longer see old grease, then the bearing is full of new grease. The most difficult part of this job was the tip of our cheap grease gun kept getting stuck on the end of the Zerk fitting!

Still nervous about the warnings about overfilling them. If the old grease comes out the front how could you over fill it?
