Thanks, I worked that out, once Sharon confirmed it was Mutlitpurpose which is lithium bearing grease. Just wanted to be sure Dexter or nüCamp was not using the new synthetic type grease. Valvoline is a good brand. cheers
You will also hear Zerk fittings called Alemite fittings.....it's interchangeable (kind of). @N7SHG_Ham highlight mention of lithium grease is extremely important. It's more important then the brand of grease. Mobile 1 (I use this type) Lucus, Royal, whatever you use, the key point is that the binder/carrier in the grease…
Ditto what tabiphile said -- it didn't used to be an issue, but it is nowadays : (this from my post some time ago) Be advised also: there are some incompatibility issues with different wheel bearing greases; best to clean out totally if you're planning to put in a different grease and/or don't know what type of grease was…
The EZ lube system incorporated by Dexter Axle Company and used on the AL-KO axles on the T@B units is handy, but an inspection of the bearings should be performed every 12 months or 12,000 miles (as recommended by the factory and manufacturer) and via a certified technician/mechanic, etc. https://youtu.be/XT0RKDGgDm8?t=69…
ScottG I also want to at least carry 1 set of bearings for my 2019 320. I also carry a small can of grease. Even if you don't do this work yourself you are way ahead of the game if you have the bearings and the seal to place right in the hand of the person who will be doing the work instead of waiting for him to chase down…
@trimtab, you might want to make sure that what you're calling Bearing Buddies are not simply the EZ-Lube zerks that all Tabs have had since 2012 or 2013 or so. They look similar, as in they both have zerks to add grease. If that's the case you don't want to follow the instructions for Bearing Buddies, as they're a…
That's interesting, @trimtab. If that is the case than those must have replaced the EZLube spindle--I can't really envision how you would have both and have them work together. I'm not sure offhand if I consider the Bearing Buddies an improvement. Perhaps on a boat trailer where submersion was an issue. It looks to me like…
I've had this discussion bookmarked for some time, but have yet to perform any maintenance on my six-year-old bearings other than refreshing the grease using the EZ-Lube at the start of each season. Recently I manually repacked the bearings on my small utility and boat trailers. Messy, sure--but otherwise a very easy job.…
@ScottG...too funny... Here are a few old links that might have some helpful information.https://tabforum.nucamprv.com/#/discussion/comment/133133 https://tabforum.nucamprv.com/#/discussion/comment/142472 Since you have really stretched things you should pay particular care to a few things that you might not worry about if…
I was curious about the seals as well. In my extensive experience with trailer wheel bearings (translation: I watched a couple You-Tube videos and did it once--ha ha) the rear seal is often tapped out from the front by whacking on the bearing with a suitable implement to distribute the force. Whether this is a good idea or…
