Was wondering if anyone has removed their A/C? I know it sounds funny but we live in Colorado and really don't need the A/C, we thought about taking it out because the space would be great for storage.
It occurs to me that it might be a good spot for a microwave. In 30+ years of tent camping in the Northeast, there has been ONE night when it was too warm for sleeping.

In PA/OH the humidity gets you.

Yes it was me who removed the A/C. Should be a searchable thread on this topic. Too small an opening for a microwave (mine is located on the pedestal). Weight savings of about 38 lbs. leaves a fairly unusable space for anything of consequence. Too high for drawers. So my A/C is back in situ waiting for a warm day.

You could fit more clothes in there than those 3 back cabinets on an S model, I'd bet.

While a storage cabinet would be nice, I think of resale. Here in the Midwest, you need A/C for the humidity. Last summer at Tearstock with temps in the mid to upper 90's every day, the A/C is a must!

Regarding the outside panel issue. Have you considered making it an accessible outside storage door area. Granted, it's a little high, but it would be able to be waterproofed and locked. It was just a thought.
If you have an Outback and are short, you need to carry a step anyhow to reach the spare tire nut release on the yakima rack. I'm 5'6" and need a small step to reach the spare on the added yakima rack on my T@Bitha without the added few inches of the Outback axel. I also carry the adjustable step when I use the tent because the skirting covers the pull-out step. It's been very handy for lots of things and stores flat.

Link to photos about removing a/c are not functioning . We have a U with the floor level a/c and would like to remove for more floor space as we travel with dogs.
@susaninnh - I fixed the above link. Tabaz’s A/C is in a 320. It is mounted above the bench. There is a thread around here showing removal of the floor level CoolCat that I will try to find.

@OutbackAZ were you the one who pulled your a/c out? Could it be removed permanently?

I'd consider removing it completely if I knew I'd never want the AC. No more bumped head (there anyway).
Might make it durn roomy in there!
