What do you use a microwave for?

I've seen several people mention using microwaves in their T@Bs - what do you cook in them?

I have a small one gathering dust in the basement, left over from when we had the old kitchen and a young son whom I didn't want using the one over the range. Would consider taking it camping if I had some ideas for meals.

Defrosting meat, cooking veggies, warming up leftovers, poached eggs, I love microwave popcorn!. @Photomom, at home I cook about 75% of my meals in the microwave, 20% on the grill and about 5% in the oven. I got my first microwave in 1978 and it lasted until about 2010. It was a good one!  I learned to do without it last winter while camping because I reverted to using the gas grill and stove since I camped without electric sites so much.  If you camp with electric, by all means, take one along.

For longer trips I keep one in the TV, sits in the back so I don't have to move it around in the T@B.  I like having it for leftovers and oatmeal... lots and lots of oatmeal.

States the T@Bpole has camped, so far ;)

The one thing I thought I'd miss the most was a microwave - heating up coffee, leftovers, popcorn, etc. ... Haven't missed it at all - totally surprised.

Microwave meals that one would make at home.  Simple to use if shore power is available.  Much more complicated and expensive if boondocking.

No PXL.  Still just cutting a one inch slit in the wrapper and waiting for the "ding."

Hmm. Don't really cook in it at home, just warm up leftovers, make popcorn sometimes. Would love some recipes.

@Photomom, my favorite can be cooked in the microwave, in a pot on the stove or in aluminum foil on the grill or fire.

Fresh green beans, sliced and diced red potatoes, corn, sweet peppers sliced and diced, add ham or sausage (if you desire), add onions (optional) season to taste, add chicken broth, and put it in the microwave uncovered (but put a couple of paper towels under the bowl). Try cooking for increments of 15 minutes, check for tenderness of potatoes and green beans. It's a one pot meal that can have left overs.   Add other veggies if desired.

A grill favorite: get some bamboo skewers. Cut up chicken into shish-kabob size (or shrimp or beef or pork) cut up chunks of sweet peppers, onions, tomatoes, zucchini slices, etc. thread them on skewers. Season to taste. Spray the grill or put aluminum foil on the grill for no mess cleanup, but spray with a cooking oil before lighting the flame. Cook until done. Add other veggies if desired.

If you have a Kindle, there are some great camping cookbooks, along with aluminum foil recipes. I have them on the Kindle and the iPhone. It helps when I get tired of the old standbys. I rarely eat out and cook my meals or a group of snow birders get together and coordinate a pot luck dinner to help with variety.

And trust me, I am not known for my culinary skills ;). I eat to survive. I do not survive to cook magnificent meals .

We always called foil packet meals, Hobo dinners.

I'm building up a collection of foil packet dinners that can be cooked on a grill or over a fire. We just did chicken with red potatoes and asparagus in a lemon mustard sauce last night. I love to cook, camping or home.

    History Lesson:

Hobo's in the 30's often couldn't read or write, so they developed a "sign language" of signs to help other hobo's as they traveled the rail lines. My Maternal Grandmother's house had a smiling cat face on a fence post off of the alley. It meant a nice lady lived there who could always find something for the hobo's to eat. While the budget was stretched so thin with 6 kids and MawMaw and PawPaw, MawMaw always had something for everyone.

And that is why no friend eats alone on Thanksgiving or Christmas if we have anything to do with it.

Pinterest has gone downhill, way too commercial now, but I have found a few camping recipes there too.

Nothin' better than foil meals cooked over the bar-b-que! I always cook my veggies that way, even @ home. Throw in some chicken, pork, tri-tip, a little seasoning, and wa-la!

Reminds of my old "manifold chicken". Car smelled like roast chicken for months, till I did a Bbq pork.

Microwave: stovetop stuffing (I know, ironic), Mashed Potatoes  (Simply Potatoes), chocolate fudge, baked potato, bacon, steamed veggies (Pampered Chef microcooker), defrosting. I used my George Foreman grill more than my microwave, though.

I just used mine tonite. Stopped for lunch on the road today, put the leftovers in my fridge, and heated up the leftovers for dinner :)

Has anybody installed a microwave on their T@b?

I believe someone posted that they were having the factory install one on the T@B they ordered. Other than that everyone seems to just have small, standalone units.

Here's where I put my 700W counter top microwave.  Out of the way and hidden by the Lagun table top.  Smaller seat cushion made by a local upholstery shop.  Can't wait to see where the factory put theirs.

Does microwave popcorn fit in a  T@B320s microwave?  Maybe the single serving size?

Hi, We use one of these poppers with regular popcorn.  They fold down and take little space. They don’t require oil.    Works well.
