Fantastic fan noisey

Is it my fan, or is everybody’s fan noisey? I mean like wines like crazy to the pint I don’t want to run it at night...

I upgraded to the 10 speed Fantastic Fan which not only uses less power, but can be reduced to a quieter speed.

I don't run mine for the same reason. Even on the low setting, the noise is too much. Do some research before spending money on the variable speed model. Someone posted here that the lowest speed on the variable model is the same as the 3 speed model (I.e. Same rpms = same noise level). Jenn's post seems to contradict that assumption.

I doubt that this is true. When you put it all of the way down to the lowest speed it is super slow and almost silent. It's been 2 years since I made the switch, but I could not work with it even on low and take a conference call with the standard fan but could with the 10 speed fan.

The amp draw on the 10 speed gets really low,  this mod is on my radar since we tend to boondock.

I have found on a different forum that the control could be change, and this is what I am doing right now.  I found a complete 12 volts no set speed variable switch, that make it very slow, so slow that I have foumd a squil noise form the bearing or bushing.  So it goes from almost stop to regular full speed, and I will use the directional switch to turn it off.  Al in all, about 10,00$.

but I do not remember the name of the switch.  It is mounted with a pcb board.

I recall someone mentioning the low variable was the same speed as the low 3 speed switch, so I didn't pursue the mod at that time.  Luckyj - please post more info on that variable speed switch once your done with the mod.  That would sure save us a lot of money and time.

I wired in a separate on/off switch and wired in a 12 volt cooling fan from a computer, hung it with small bungee cords under the regular fan. A nice little bit of white noise and ventilation. We can use either fan, which ever one is desired.

Jandj please post the how to do on here, I like the idea of the small fan without disturbing the other fan.

The tnttt (teardrops n tiny travel trailers) for has the instructions for putting a rheostat in-line on the Fantastic Fan. No, sorry I haven’t visited there for some time so I don’t have a link.  There might be a link on the old Little Guy Forum.

I had a ten speed installed at the factory as an option.  At the lowest setting, you hardly know it’s running.  I bought it, mainly, because the lower speeds will still move air but use less amps than the three speed.  For long-term boondocking, I try to find every miliamp I can find.

It is remarkable what a difference even the lower speeds can make by just keeping the air moving.

@4ncar, yes, I specifically asked for the 10 speed fan, as I have one on my fifth wheel.  It was not listed as an option.

We sleep with it on regularly.  Of course we have slept through hurricanes: Wilma, Irma etc.

I was able to custom order to be install at the factory the FF 7350 version. Nice to know it has lot less power drain and low speed is very quiet. The fridge fan is the noisy item in the 400. I have yet to need the AC, I fully suspect that would be the loudest fan noise in the entire unit.

I thought the FF was noisy too so had it replaced with the MaxxAir 7500K today.  Very happy with the MaxxAir as it has 10 speeds and is very quite on the lower settings.

What I don’t understand is why FF does not disclose on their site that the “fancy” units are or are not 10 speed.  Are the special order only?

FF direct site does show for the 7350 model there are 13 speeds, while all other versions are 3 speeds.

OEM versions (5000 and 6000) are variable, but wall controlled only.

I am wondering if the 10 speed units where an older version that was offered in the past?
