what cleaning products should be use for toilet cleaning?

what cleaning products should be use for toilet cleaning?  and what brush ?

can i use the same stuff that is used for home toilet?   would it hurt the plastic?  i know most product are for porcelain toilets

my understanding is the the toilet cleaner cannot be antibacterial as it will hurt the black tank natural bacteria eating,  and that the brush cannot be harsh as it will scratch the plastic toilet

@mreric You might consider Thetford Aqua Foam. No scrubbing required. It has worked well for us.

You should have received a product insert from Thetford that specified cleaning products.  We just use a Fantastik type product and disposable cloth.

After each trip I just spray everything with Simple Green, run a brush gently around the bowl, and hose it all down into the tanks. I don't know if that's a Thetford-approved method, but it's easy and it's worked for four years.

I should add the caveat that the toilet is only used for, um, liquid waste. Other additives may require a more interactive approach to cleaning.  ;-)

Might add, several Fed camp sites that we have been at, caution the use of chemicals added to the tank and will not allow you to dump if so used.  They said to use extra water in the black tank and that it actually is better for the system.  Seems the added chemicals mess with the systems of the dump site.

atlasb--do you mean chemicals, as is the normal black tank chemicals?

I use non-toxic, eco-friendly products in my home and my T@B.  Been doing this for years.  Now that this study came out this past spring I am really happy I do, especially in a small space like my trailer.  Been using the same products for over 15 years.  They work amazingly well.

I give a shot of Dawn dish soap and gently scrub. No known problems after two seasons.

Our local scout camp has a large digester that is the same way......no bleach to clean the showers and toilets with...

I have always just brushed the bowl when adding the normal (non-formaldehyde) tank chemicals. Partially fill the bowl with water, add your chemical, brush and flush.
