Has anybody upgraded to a 8,000 btu Air conditioner

My 5,000 Danby Air conditioner does not cool during the day  Yes the Vent fan is on  If it's 90 outside it's 80 inside  Yet at night it will freeze you out and cool down to 68 during the night  I would like to install the Kenmore 8,000 btu digital remote  Has anybody updated to a 8,000 btu unit and did you have room to trim the cabinet to install it  What about hooking up drain hose to the new A/C  Any information greatly appreciated

    Before you do the change, try one more thing, please. 

    Open one side window (the non-sunny side) to the first open position (open about 1” or so), and lock into this open position. Then open the roof vent about 2”, and do not turn the fan on. 

    See if this helps cool the T@B better. 

    This is how I cool my T@B cool enough for my dog who hates getting hot.

    I'm contemplating something similar (LG, GE, or Frigidaire). The pan leads to the drainage tube. There's some 6000 BTU higher EER units that look like they could be made to fit in the box with surgery on or replacement of the front plate. But most of the 8000s look to be a bit too tall without changing the box. Let us know what you go with, if @Verna's window trick isn't enough in your climate. @Verna also suggested getting a replacement model with an echo / power saving mode, so you don't freeze once night sets in.

    The adjustable vent air diverters are a brilliant idea!! Cheap and an amazing difference. Very easy to find at your local box store too.

     I have adjustable diverters INSIDE not outside... so I'm curious, how do you keep them on? I know 9 times out of 10 they're magnetic, so does this mean y'all have to take them off after every trip?

    Freezing is never s problem for me...  =)

    I'm confused (not a new issue) How do the diverters on the outside exhaust vent help keep it cooler inside. My Danby struggles to cool the cabin in the Texas heat. What should be the differential temp between the incoming air and the outgoing air flow?

    For the AC to work effectively it needs cooler air on the side intakes. Without the diverted the very hot exhaust air is sucked back into the unit where it becomes even hotter.

    Just to clarify - You are saying that the hot air exhaust will flow out the area between the two diverters, while cooler air will enter thru the two diverters - 
    Correct?

    Any tricks for keeping the humidity down?  Up here in CT right now it’s been very muggy, running the AC works great but after it reaches temp and shuts off the humidity climbs like crazy!

    We open our fan vent and crack a window or 2.  It keeps the air moving and feels less humid.

    I live and camp in Southern California. I’m in the air conditioning business. My TAB Outback with the 5,000 BTU does not cool comfortably if outside temperatures are above 90. Unit should have been minimally a 6,000 to 8,000 BTU. If humidity is high it’s even worse.

    @Joelair1980 : I replaced the original with an LG 6000BTU unit.  Has a dry mode, and also cools better.  Only problem is it's a slinger type, and sometimes leftover water can get back in the cabin.  It's on my to-do list to remove the plug and see what the impact to cooling efficiency is on this model.

    We shouldn't have to go thru all this trouble to stay comfortable  They over charge for the price of the T@B models  They could put a better A/C unit in and a better heating system

    I got tired of being hot in the summer and cold in the winter  Sold my T@B  I now on a 2019 Little guy Mini Max A/C works great 13,500 btu  Has a furnace in it that works just like central heat  Instead of heating system that heats up anti freeze and won't warm up a T@B  Good luck to all of you

    @Talon, I'm sorry your T@B didn't meet your expectations, and am happy you found something that works better for you.
    I do recall from other discussions that you experienced some frustrating issues with your Alde. However, yours did seem to be an unusual case that was not reflective of Alde quality in general.

    97 degrees in Alabama the other day....was cool during the day and night.   I do use the air diverters.  No shade either at least on the camper.
