FUSES?

I know that some people used to call Elsie at nucamp for fuses. Where do you get your fuses now? Are all the fuses used normal fuses you would find through autoparts store or Amazon?

Yes, you can get the fuses just about anywhere. When we were at uCamp last year, the Alde rep handed out Alde fuses!

And look for Fuses For Newbies and you can buy pretty much just what you need, without having to buy the big family pack assortments. The file also has nice pictures and descriptions of where the fuses lie in wait.

While the 400 is configured differently than the 320, the fuses should largely be the same and this PDF has an index of parts and where to get them.

In the past there has been some debate about whether the Alde glass fuses should be fast blow or slow blow. I'm not sure we ever got a definitive resolution.

Understood, but the debate arose after the creation of Fuses for Nubies. The slow-blows have been suggested (apparently even by Alde) as an alternative for those having repeated issues with blown fuses. As I note in the above-mentioned discussion, mine came with fast-blows installed and a pack of slow-blows attached as spares. Curious.

Here is another one - mentions using a 5 amp fuse, but the ground wire seems to be the cure instead of a fast vs slow blow.

Yep, the 5A fuse swap out was also mentioned by Alde somewhere in that discussion I linked to.

It's interesting that some Alde's have this problem and others don't. I have the original fast-blow fuses still in my unit (knock on wood...) while the factory provided slow blow spares and the fast blow spares I purchased separately stand at the ready.

I think the point made by Mike in one of those links - to avoid surges by turning everything off before disconnecting and reconnecting- goes a long way to prevent the fuse blowing. We tested that theory last summer and it proved true.
