TaB 400 Dinette Table Modification

Edited for picture resizing.

The table on my TaB 400 sticks out past the cushions in the sitting position. It is kind of a nuisance to manuver around and is just in the way. It is also difficult to move up and down as I need to stretch over the top. I redesigned the table with a flip-up top which makes setting up the top much easier, and when in the sitting position it is out of way and more enjoyable to sit or lie down. And, we gain more space.

How sturdy is the table in the lower position?

Can it be used as a seat in the lower position?

Can you post a photo of the underside?

Where did you get the wood for the table?

I really do like this as an idea and mod.  =)

Love the mod. I assume that when the original table is lowered and the dinette is being used as a bed, that the lip of the table is uncomfortable?  I mean when you go to get out of the dinette as a bed you would swing your legs over the exposed lip of the original table and catch yourself on the edge?  I’ve seen the inside of the 400 briefly.
  • I love your dinette table mod, thanks for posting.  I don't move the table for all the reasons you stated but I could now.  Your design allows for flexible and practical use of the space, thanks for sharing your idea!

Great table modification!  What hardware did you use to support the flip-up part of the table?  Any pictures of the underside available? Thanks.

Thank you. It really changed how we use the space now - much more enjoyable to move around. Easier to lift and lower, and we love the smooth edges that I incorporated in the top.

would appreciate a look at the underside and or what the hardware is that you used for the hinge joint  and how it locks in place.   Beautiful table top!
    Thanks

Thanks also for the pic. Was thinking of making a lighter table, and this fold down idea is great.

Yes, I used metal leaf supports, which work great.

TaBle42...where did you get the butcher block material?  Everything I've found is either too thick or very expensive.

This really helps with opening up the space and for sitting and lying down.

@TaBle42  I think this question was asked but I don’t know that it was answered... where did you source the birch butcher’s block?  Did you order online?  By the way, I think this is one of the very best and most desirable mods I’ve seen for the 400.  You lose none of the original functionality and only enhance the usability of the set up as a sofa.  And it looks fantastical to boot!   Love it!

    Thank you -
You can go online or IKEA. However, I reinforced mine with steel ribs to control cupping and to provide more support.

You ROCK!  Did you use the wall attachment from the original table or did you order a new one from Nu Camp? Did you use the old table as a template for the shape of the original table? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Thank you ChrisFix, I am actually making several for some folks right now.

I'm a few months away from purchasing a camper...but your table is already on my short list of upgrades!
